on april 23 i had a 3 month follow up. i told my doctor that i felt like a cold was coming on. she drew blood and put me on tamiflu. i called the office on april 30 to see if the results came back abd i told them that i was getting worst, they said that my a1c test showed that it was a 13.9 and i also have type a & b flu. she told me to go to the emergency room because i needed a stronger antibiotic. when i got to the er they did blood and urine test and a chest xray they came in and put me on an iv and said i was severly dehydrated and that i was going to be admitted until thursday. while in the er they forced 2 bags of saline and antibiotices into me and that they were going to put me in icu so they could check on me every 2 hours. i when through a total of 14 bags of saline. i asked them how could i be dehydrated when i was drinking 3 gallons of water a day? they said that the water was running right through me. but i did get some good news on friday in 2 weeks my a1c test showed that it dropped down to 12.6.

Your A1c is EXTREMELY high. Are you currently diabetic??? A normal (or even near normal) should be under 6. Im a Type 1 and when my A1c was 12, they admitted me into ICU as well and were VERY worried. Having an A1c that high is dangerous, takes a while (weeks to months) to get down, and can cause complications later if you dont get it down in a timely matter.

i see a kidney dr so i called him about the report they got it and called me back and said that pills should help it. he also said to avoid meds like aleve and motron that will drive the test to show high. i wish you good luck.

So sorry you went through that, but at least you were able to recover and improve your A1c:)

Hope you continue to feel better.
