Hi, what are the best drinks on a market for diabetics? I know there are many healthy drinks that can be made at home, but what about when you out and about…what to drink then?

I am not crazy about plain tap water. I do like Seltzer water with a squirt of lemon and I love Pelagrino water (but it is pretty expensive). I try to remember to take a bottle of stevia drops with me when I go out. You can use it with lemon and water to make your own lemonade, and there are no chemical additives. Or add a few drops to plain iced tea.

Btw, what is Mio?? Never heard of it.

Mio is "Liquid water enhancer" (how's that for a oxymoronic statement) Read more about it here ~

I have the eating out problem as well regarding what to drink. I do not like the water here in NC, it is nasty tasting even with lemon added. I am not an iced tea drinker nor coffee drinker. I really dislike diet sodas, too sweet for me, as are artifical sweetners. I really don't like any of those. Not the pink, the blue the yellow packets at all. I would rather have a tiny bit of real sugar than the fake ones. Any other suggestions?? I usually bring my own bottle water with me, then I know I will have what I like. Thanks for sharing. :-)

Mio is excellent, can be found in the koolaid aisle usually and is cost effective, 24 servings for under $4,lots of flavors and can just be added to regular tap water or bottled. I have tried lemonade, iced tea and a couple others, its very good..

Thanks everyone for your advice! I agree nothing like water. Has anyone heard about stevia? I found a new drink by the name of flave water which doesn't have any sugar in it but contains stevia ( Is it safe for me to drink? Thanks again for all your nice replies, I appreciate it!

Stevia is the bomb! It is plant based, if you get it in it's raw form, it's green and doesn't dissolve but you steep the sweet out of it. No calories, No carbs...and sweet. Some people say it has an aftertaste, but I have not experienced that.

I use a processed one called Truvia or Purvia or Stevia in the Raw. All of those are processed to be more like sugar. Last year I grew some in my garden and ground my own steeping stevia. Good stuff.

At home, like the rest of us here that have posted.. water is what I drink most and love as it so quenches the thirst and is so good for you. When out, say at a restaurant, water is still what I drink. On "occasion" if the restaurant serves it I will have a diet coke/pepsi- but only 1.

We buy kiwi strawberry and Key Lime water and mix them half and half, no calories and no sweeter, that is all that we drink now. You can get them at Kroger or Walmart, we have been doing this for over two years now. We have some friends that are diabetic that has started doing the same thing. It is good for you.

GabbyPA 2012-05-12 15:19:21 -0500 Report

Water, water, everywhere and so much to drink. I always have it with me and if I want a little twist I add some lime juice and a packet of Truvia. Shake it up and enjoy it...yum.

If I am on the road, I generally still drink water, but every once in a while, I reach for a diet doctor pepper or an unsweet tea.

Hi Anna, I am a crystal light mixologist. I mix two flavors together in a 32 oz bottle and discover taste that are delightful. I also drink tea and coffee and a diet dr. pepper. diet dr pepper cherry, diet pepsi or coke zero cherry and diet pepis. I don't drink them often but it does break up the monotony of drinking water. I have also found that Target carries some real nice versions of the Crystal Light mix.

Howdy Anna! WELCOME to DiabeticConnect!

Due to my kidney condition I have to say "water." I have a water bottle which has a filter (a brita from walmart - under $9.) Sometimes I put some lemon or lime juice into the water from my Brita pitcher, but that is about as wild as I get with drinks.

Blessings to you and yours!

Annabc 2012-05-17 01:08:10 -0500 Report

Thanks James!

I like the idea of adding lemon juice to it… cannot get use to consuming just plain water, so instead finding myself not drinking enough liquid.
