Also are there other types of insulin that you can take and what are the pros and cons of those?

I used to take beef insulin for sometime, the past ?years times have changed, the beef is no longer available,Not enough dr.s were prescribing it when the new synthetic type had come into effect, then again even some of the synthetic types have become obsolete as well. The best thing that you can do is talk with your Dr. about what type of insulin is best for you. For myself,I have been on levimir and humalog for a little over a year now, what a difference throughout the day it has made for me. I have to say synthetic is the way to go,it is more cleaner than the previous types of insulin to my uinderstanding.

If you live in the U.S. animal insulin is not allowed you can not buy it here. So synthetic is the only option.
