I have an upcoming trip and I haven't flown in a few years. Do you think it's wise to ask for a visual inspection of my glucose meter and strips etc. as opposed to it going through the xray machine?

I just run all of it through the machine, have never had any problems. Also had food packed. I have a written drs note for what I need and he puts his cell number on it as well so that he can always be reached.

I concur with the posts below: separate clear bag, and I had with me a letter from the doc. I traveled to southern Brazil and had no problems in the US or out of it. I also packed along a few snacks I might need. For long term travel I packed my extra insulin in zip-lot bag and in freeze pouches from the pharmacy and packed it in the middle of suitcase. Lasted all way (17 hours) to Brazil, froze bags till return and repeated process.

I've never had an issue with my meter staying in my purse and going through the x-ray machines. I do not let my pump however go through the x-rays. I've been told from the Animas reps that insulin pumps could be damaged or malfunction if run through the x-rays. Not sure if this is true, but why risk it.

X-ray's not a problem. Like Jeanae, i just keep the whole mess in a clear bag if I've only got carry-on and throw it in with my phone and stuff. If you're leaving the country though, you may be questioned at your destination.

When I travel I keep my "kit" out and hand it to them. They inspect it and hand it back- no problem. I have no idea about how the x-ray machine may affect it but I know this way I don't hold up the line while they keep looking at it again and again through the image. Good luck! btw- the flight attendants were so wonderful asking me if I needed water or a snack or… if it is going to be a long flight, let them know.
