Meter with Data Cable?

Maybe someone can help me think through this minor problem. I'm still getting used to all the equipment that has entered my life since my diagnosis late last year.

I've been using a Freestyle meter right along, but the data cable I've been trying to get is unavailable - and Abbott can't say when they will have them again! The CoPilot software looks good and I really want to be able to download my data, but perhaps it's just time for me to get a different meter (when my current stock of strips runs out, of course!). like the small blood drop required by the Freestyle, but …

That said, I've just started on a Dexcom CGMS, so perhaps I won't need the glucometer cable as much, but the Dexcom readings can be pretty far off from my Freestyle at times. Can any CGMS users tell me if I'm likely to want to download the glucometer readings going forward?

I'll assume it's a stereo type jack at the meter, and either a 9-pin or USB conection at the computer. One of these work?

Thanks for these suggestions. The Abbott-approved cables are out of stock, as are those from Celeritous, but I found a USB/3.5mm cable in my spare cable drawer, and I'm picking up a 3.5mm-2.5mm converter from Radio Shack. I'll see if it happens to work.

Have you taken your meter to an electronics store to see if there might be a data cable that will fit it as an off brand? Sometimes places like Best Buy or Radio Shack have all kinds of cables that might cross over. It seem so crazy that Freestyle doesn't know when they will be back in stock...that sounds like a discontinuation to me.

So using something different may be a good choice. The trick is to stick with one. When you cross use, the results can be more confusing than helpful.

I called around, and though I don't think they have a USB/2.5mm, I can get a converter from 3.5-2.5mm so maybe. We'll see! I always use the same meter, although I do have a spare Freestyle. Maybe I should try it with the spare just in case - only a couple readings in that one and if I blow it out I won't lose anything!

Thanks Gabby. I have been doing that a bunch lately and didn't really think of how confusing the results might be to my doctor especially.
