About 15 years ago I was diagnosed as a Type 2 patient, started by controlling diet, then the pill, then insulin, then insulin and pill. Now in 2010 I was able to loose 50#, then in June 2011 was taken off of insulin - too many lows, now I am just on Metformin and want to get off of it also. Has anyone ever heard of or know anything about the pill called - GTF Chromium?

Many doctors of nutritional medicine recommend a total daily intake of 200mcg. I have not confirmed any personal benefit so far. I did start taking Chromium again a couple of weeks ago, so we'll see. One of my sources is The Natural Pharmacy, (J. Wright, M. D., S. Austin, N.D., D. Brown, N.D., A. Gaby, M.D.)

I took it about 15 years ago when I knew I was not metabolizing carbohydrates appropriately but had no idea I was becoming diabetic. It was a recommended part of the Carbohydrate Addict's diet plan. I used it for about 2 years and eventually built up a tolerance to it's beneficial effects and a bad stomach ache whenever I took it. I stopped. Afterwards, I found chromium can cause toxicity at high levels.
