Food Combining Diet !!!!!

Hi, all. I'm very happy to report that after trying many, many diets and other things, including suggestions, of course, on this site, I have finally found something that not only is naturally reducing my blood sugar but is also making it easy — yes, that's what I said — to lose weight.
I accidentally came across something called the "food combining" theory in doing research on diabetes and immediately ordered at my local bookstore the book called "Fit for Life" by Harvey & Marilyn Diamond (Wellness Central) - Copyright 1985 by Harvey & Marilyn Diamond. And believe me it was well worth the money (about $20) because it actually works.
This book outlines the principles of food combining. From a scientific angle, I don't understand how it works. All I do know is that I've already lost 5 pounds in 10 days and my BS reading is down from over 300 to 129 this morning. I'm not taking the pills any more, but I am taking 10 units of insulin daily (rather than the 30 to 40 units previously).
One of the main things about this diet is that things that we in the USA take for "normal" is not recommended, suchas "meat and potatoes". On this diet, if you want meat, eat it with veggies; and if you want potatoes, eat them with veggies, too.
Like I said, I don't know how it works but it's working and that's all I care about.

Food Combining Works!!! Instantaneous results to boot. Best part is that it is easy. No measuring, no counting, nothing added. YOU just eat the right combined foods and it all happens, even weight loss.
Last 3 month lab for A1C was 7.2. Current 3 month lab is 6.4.
I am on an insulin pump and I'm not stressing out on what I'm eating.

Yeah…it does work…I have been doing that for about 2 years now—I need to get a new bathroom scale. The only thing I keep doing wrong is putting too much creamer in my coffee every morning. As a general rule, when I eat meat, I always have it with vegetables, and when I eat dessert, I run extra long. I do admit I still screw up on the fast food—even then, though, I now crave greens and real fruit much more often. I would say I have lost about 23 pounds in two years—so, as you can see, I am not perfect..I have not followed it perfectly..I just know that by eating green peppers, I am gaining nutrients ( and I think iron) in my bloodstream. This gives me more strength, and then if and when I do go low, my body deals with it a LOT better. ANNE

Hey, Anne — what does it matter if you like your cream. As long as you're losing, things can't be wrong. I like the simple approach, as you can see. Good luck. Oh, and by the way, I do think that an occasional dessert is not going to kill us. My only problem is that when I do indulge, I want to indulge again and again. So, rather than go through that torture, I try to stay completely away from desserts. But, that's my way of dealing with the craving.

Yes..sorry I took so long to get back to you…I have a bad virus, but am getting better. Yeah, I like the simple approach, too. I have really enjoyed adding more greens to my diet-what makes me even happier yet is I don't have the urge to add sour cream or related to them..thank God..ha, ha…ANNE

Sounds like Emma is on to something good. Anything that lowers blood sugars that much has to be better than meds.

Hi, Suziesgirl — I'm only saying that happened one time. Other times, it depends, I suppose on what kind of veggies I have. It's kept within a fairly good range for me, though, so I'm content. Thanks for the good words, by the way.

I vaguely remember Suzanne Somers had a diet book based on food combining. I remember there being something about always eating melon alone? This was a few years back.

Since becoming diabetic, I make it a point to try and eat carbs with protein to slow down or prevent a blood sugar spike. Maybe I have it all wrong! Emma is this book basically for weight loss or is it meant to help lower bs in diabetics?

The book is not really for diabetics and only mentions diabetes in an off-handed way. But I need desperately to lose weight since excess weight gives diabetics more problems than we'd care to talk about. So, what I do in the morning is have one piece of fruit with the least amount of carbs that I can find. The book says to eat fruit all morning long, but I can't do that. I tried it once and by the end of the morning, my BS reading was almost 400 which, of course, is not good, sall we say? I also do my exercising in the morning which helps control the sugar from that one piece of fruit. Like I said, I don't understand any of the science of this diet, but I do think it's working very well for me. That's the only reason I am talking about it here. It's that simple. I'm not arguing either for it or against it. All I'm saying is that it seems to work for me and maybe it'll work for others here.

Sounds interesting…I am happy it is working for you…I will check into it and see if my library carries it. If I could lose weight just by combining my foods differently then I am all for it!

One year I ate pure fruit by itself and pure greens by themselves..then, for extra energy, I'd eat potatoes..I'd then walk and run 6 days a week at the exact same time everyday..I lost 80 lbs..the only BIG downfall to this is, when I was at a birthday party or the like, some people thought I was being rude or obsessive about not eating any cake, or having only half a slice..I would only eat dessert once a month. What I do now is much more realistic..I need to lose 50lbs —60 really. I do the food combining way of eating, and it's very real..what's great about it is I don't force myself to follow rigid rules..yet, I still am very gradually losing weight. I still walk and run, but at any general time in the evening 5 nights a week—early evening..not late evening, otherwise, I'd be wide awake all night..ha…ANNE

Good for you, Anne. I think it's great that you are doing it your way. That's what I am doing, too. It works. That's all I know. By the way, I wouldn't worry so much about those people at the wedding. They obviously don't care about your health. I am getting up there in years now and I've come to realize over those years that what people like that say is not really important and shouldn't be taken seriously.

Hi, Gabby — yes, I'm back. Maybe not frequently, but … I'm 70 yrs old and still have to work, would you believe. But anyway, that's life. About the sandwich, if you want a sandwich, get yourself some really good grain bread and load it up with veggies and maybe mayo or something else that you like. The book also says that vinegar is bad for us. That came as a big surprise to me, believe me. Anyway, got ot go for now. Good luck if you try this diet.

One of my favorite sandwiches is cucumber with mircle whip or a dill pickle sandwich with mayo. husband worries, but no baby here. LOL

OH, boy…the worst thing you can eat is a sandwich? Ha…just goes to show how imperfect I am..ha, ha. I used to eat virtually no sandwiches, but I got weak, so started eating them again. Yeah, it's pretty bad, because the sugar in the bread is SO hard on the pancreas. The calories..not too good…ANNE

Anne: get the book if you don't have it and combine your sandwiches the correct way and you won't have any problems. I love sandwiches, but I'm being careful how much bread I eat.
