Did you know that your nails can be an indicator of what is going on inside of your body?
Never give yourself a self diagnosis, always leave that to the medical professionals.

Make sure that you talk to your doctor about this and any other health concerns that you may have!

Don't want to be an alarmist, but have your doctor look at this, mine does every visit. Dark lines (from tip to cuticle) can be a sign of melanoma. Thin lines (like pencil lines) can indicate heart issues. I get them temporarily on one or two fingers, but they seem to go away as quickly as they come.

I had been having problems with vertical ridges on my nails and they would split along the ridges and get caught on all sorts of things. The condition of your nails, hair and skin can be a reflection of deficiencies in vitamins and nutrients, either caused by diet or disease, not just diabetes. When I posted a discussion about my nails splitting, many DC'ers suggested I try Biotin. I started taking 5000mcg of BIOTIN daily and am now taking 7500mcg daily. Since July 31, 2011, when I posted this discussion ( my nails are stronger and the ridges and splits have nearly disappeared. You might want to give it a try. I first bought my OTC at WalMart and got the latest batch on-line through Puritan's Pride.

I agree. My nails look great. I have eased up on the Biotin, it was given me facial hair,,,,ewwe.

Gee, I thought that the coarser facial hair was just another factor in getting older????…along with the crepey skin. I did have some of the coarser hair before trying the Biotin…invested in a good pair of tweezers…and it helps that I have lighter colored hair too.

Are you the annonymous who posted a few mins ago? Here is the reply I posted to that discussion:

"Howdy Annon! Take a look at this article here about changes in one's nails here ~;

I didn't see any nail changes due to diabetes listed there.

Without more information on your health one cannot say for sure it [your headaches] is 'for no reason'."
