Today the Dr. took me off ALL my meds!!! I can't stop smiling! I am walking on clouds! 7 months ago I started this journey with 11 meds + insulin. I was so inspired by all of my dc friends and their stories that my goal was to be med free or at least not have to take as many. Today I am medicine free!!! I have to thank all y'all for all the knowledge you passed on, for all of the advice and encouragement. I could never have gotten started without you. I will still be very diligent and strict with my eating. I will still exercise as much as I can. And I will still monitor my glucose levels. But today- THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart (and it is now a healthy one)!

That is great news, never took meds and glad I did not. You deserve a huge at a boy. You did it the right way and proved it can be done. Share you story with me and others. You may have posted it before but I have not seen it. Again congrats to you, you are a champ.

Awesome news! Makes me so hopeful! I was diagnosed 4 months ago with type 2 and had an A1C of 10.5 . I am on pretty much the same diet as you. High fiber, high protein, lots of veggies, and pretty much no "white" carbs. I was on glyburide and metformin, i have lost 30 lbs so far. I got my labs back, and this time my A1C is 6.2 and my doc. Removed the glyburide! If i keep.trending down, she said i will be off all meds and go completely diet controlled in a few more months! I know i will get where you are! Congrats!

I started at 10.4 over 2 years ago and am now at 5.5. I never took meds, I tried it without. I was so glad I did. You may want to read the book I did, diabetes without drugs, by Suzi Cohen. It was a lifesaver for me. Soooo much good information on how to get to no drugs and poss. low dose.

Congratulations!

You are so funny! My starting a1c was 10.8. My last a1c is 5.0. I started out weighing over 200+ lbs and I am short so I was as wide as I was short. I lost 78 lbs. total. I was diagnosed in August with a hypothyroidism, hypertension, high cholesterol, gout, and type2 diabetes. I cut out all red meat (more due to the gout) I cut out all fried foods, rice, pasta, bread, potatoes. I eat only fish, chicken and some turkey all boneless, skinless and all grilled or oven roasted. I eat lots of veggies- fresh, grilled, or again oven roasted. I eat fruits mostly berries but I will have a half of a small apple, or half of a small pear but cut out bananas at my doctor's suggestion. He said all the meds I was on was hard on my kidneys and liver and that bananas would only hurt. I drink only water- usually water that has been sitting in the refrig with cucumber slices with mint sprigs, or water with lemons and limes, hot herbal tea with every meal. I drink some skim milk. I allow myself a cup of oatmeal for breakfast 2 or 3 times a week with lots of cinnamon and some chopped walnuts. I walk at least 10,000 steps a day and have started to add weights thanks to great advice from fellow D.C.ers. By the way I will be 52 in two and a half weeks. And I feel FABULOUS!

Thanks for your breakdown of the plan you follow. Talk about an inspiration! I am humbled by your accomplishment in a mere 7 months. I am planning to print this out and stick it on my fridge and bathroom mirror for motivation. You go girl!

You know, I still have to try it that way. Problem is, every time I have Macadamia nuts, i eat them before I prepare the fish. I just can't help my self !
