There is a lot of talk these days about how much and in what ways patients want to hear from and interact with the pharmaceutical companies that make the medications that they take.

We'd love to get your thoughts about this issue.

Here's a quick one-question survey where you can weigh in on the issue. We'd love to have you participate.

I guess because this is the only social media I participate in, I don't really understand the issue. I put in my two cents worth though.

I am on Bydureon, a brand new drug released in the US in late January. I have found only two sites with information from actual users. That is a UK diabetes board, they have already used the drug for some time, and a facebook page about Byetta and diabetes. I really wished they had a message board, I wanted to see what other patients thought of it, patients that were starting out like me with it etc. There was nothing except their hotline and after a bit a website that had lots of helpful info on it. I did call the hotline when I had trouble getting my script filled and they were very helpful. They may follow up with me but so far they have not. My Joslin clinic and CDE were so helpful, medical questions were answered fully. I guess I just wanted real time patients in the USA to relate to! The FB page is getting more responses now which is so nice! Forgot to mention also that the Amlyn stock boards have had lots of info from investors that filtered in bits and pieces of facts regarding the launch of Bydureon.

My answer is if I inquire about a drug and leave my information for them I would not mind a follow up from them.

We are all a sales marketing tool of something by just being alive, why would this be any different. I'm not saying I like it, but just a reality.

and you are a female therefore a target for fem. hygene products. Really not all that different. That's life in the 21st century! We could drop out and permanently log off of the internet and become Luddites. That'd fix 'em!

Hey, isn't this the weekend we are supposed to unplug anyways? I think I read that today? Jay, I know you'll find it cus you are so good at it:)

jayabee52 2012-03-23 21:22:45 -0500 Report

Yep I had not been aware of this as the Huffington post is not one of my Go-to sites. The article is here ~ http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/23/nati...

I am not inclined to do that as the internet and my DiabeticConnect is a very ingrained habit. ( I say it is an "addiction" but a good one to have IMHO!

There are others viewpoints on this subject here ~ http://www.businessinsider.com/national-unplu...

HuffPo spins this as a time for discussion around the family table. I live alone, so I think I'd be in some pretty boring company.

I do read books, and manage to get on the computer too. SO I plan to be here tomorrow, as usual.

I just happen to see it on the main page, but didn't click on it. I fully understand what you are saying, sometimes I bore myself. I probably won't be on the computer much as I have several books from the library to get through and my daughter wants to buy a case for her laptop and skins to decorate the thing with. Oh, not just any will do either, so I think I'm in for a long day as she wants me to help her pick them.

My hubby is going to work on my garden for me and I have to guide that this weekend too. Thanks for the info above, knew you would help with it.

I just wish I could do the gardening all by myself. It is so peaceful that way. But a family event the way we do it so that is good as well.

jayabee52 2012-03-24 03:26:21 -0500 Report

when married to my first wife and the mother of my 3 sons we did it as a family. Our oldest boys were about 8 and 6 and they had jobs spreading the grass mulch to keep the weeds down and keep the ground fertilized. The youngest was just a babe in arms. I did a lot of the heavy work like turning the soil but you're right it was peaceful, and I loved it.

When we harvested my ex and I worked together too to clean the veggies and put them up in canning jars. We put up something like 12 dozen quarts of produce which we ate the following winter.

Great memories!

They don't come find me in ANY Internet group that I frequent. Since joining some diabetic sights it keeps happening! They say they "just want to help me.". Yeah, right for a (usually) high cost!

What info are you giving out that they are contacting you? You don't actually put your real name or personal info on it do you? You don't have to participate in anything that makes you feel iritated, ignore it, or ask to be removed from their list, or log off. It is that simple!

jayabee52 2012-03-23 20:19:38 -0500 Report

yep that happens.
I choose not to give them my phone #. If it is really something I want to see and I HAVE to give them a number, I give them an old tel. # or one which is made up. Don't get phone calls that way. and if by chance they get my real number, I can simply tell them no and hang up.
