What are you highs and lows? My daily range is between 86 and 600…I added crackers to my eating, and it's helped to keep me from swinging so dangerously, but no cure. The only thing that seriously helped me was slow acting insulin..it's expensive, though..so, I sit in this weird zone..I am type 1.5, and it's really aggravating at times. I believe my iron was too low , or borderline low quite a few times, so I started adding greens to my diet…what kind of medication do you take? ANNE

Without knowing what you are currently eating, I would suggest you speak with your doctor about referring you to a good nutritionist. He/she will be able to go over what types of foods you like and are best for your particular tastes. In the mean time, try to avoid white potatoes, white pastas, white rice, white breads, white flour, etc. These are fast-acting carbs and will send your BG's through the roof. If you have to have them, it's better to go with their whole grain/whole wheat versions and always in moderation. Make fresh fruits, vegetables, lean meats, low-fat dairy, beans, nuts, etc your new favorite foods. If you must purchase foods from the middle aisles look for foods that are high in protein and fiber will do your levels a world of good. This means you must learn to read labels and read them all through and through to find the best or healthiest product within your price range. Avoid drinking fruit juice or eating fruit bowls prepared with juice, as these will spike your levels, as well. There is so much more but these are some of the basics. What it boils down to is you taking the time to check your levels to see how certain foods are effecting you.

Howdy JP. WELCOME to DiabeticConnect.

I know you are looking for recipes and for those I direct you to the upper left on the screen where there is a link "recipes" There is a lot there.

But perhaps that for which you are looking is a METHOD of eating. I had decided to experement with eating very low carb and high protein to try to control my Blood Glucose (BG) levels. I came up with the plan I outline in this discussion here ~ http://www.diabeticconnect.com/discussions/14...

take a look at this meal plan and let me know what you think of it, either here or on that discussion.

Blessings to you and yours, JP

Good morning JP! Wecome to the party. Sorry you qualify but glad you're here!
You are correct that foods play a big part in controlling your numbers, and I'm sure as others here read your post they'll have suggestions as well.
I usually eat the same things, at the same times daily. I know it can be boring, but it beats the constant testing everytime I eat. I spent a good deal of time finding out what foods spiked me the worst, then worked on recipes using the ones that didn't. Do you keep a food journal? If not, it's a good thing to do - at least untill you know what's going on with what you eat.
Maybe you could tell us a little about what you're eating currently, and we can go from there?
