Making progress

I was diagnosed with type 2 at the beginning of January. It was a little scary, but I accepted it and determined to do all the right things. I was at 226 lbs at that time, and put myself on a good diet and exercise program. I'm not quite down to my goal (by Easter) of 200, but thinking about it, that was a bit unrealistic of me.

I've lost 10 lbs, and my new jeans no longer fit me. And with the warm weather we got this past weekend, I pulled out my shorts. The ones I bought last year that I never got to wear because they are just too tight? Well, now they fit great. I can't wait for them to be too loose!

Bet you feel great ! I know I need a bit of a shove ( to put it nicely ) to get myself motivated sometimes. Diabetes was a great motivator for me.
Your off to a good start, I wish you total success !

Keep up the great work GTU. Unrealistic or not, you're 10 pounds lighter and closer to your goal. Sometimes the goal date has to be pushed back but so long as you get there, that's all that really matters. Just keep doing what you're doing and you'll have those 200 lbs off before you know it.

I've set a goal for myself too. There's a pretty little sun dress that has been hanging in the back of my closet for years. I've never gotten rid of it because I've always said I would get into it again…someday. Well, that someday for me is this summer. So, I have plenty of time to do it and no excuses holding me back.

You are all so very supportive. I have a lot more confidence now. Thanks!

That's what we're all here for. And like Nick said, you too are part of the process. Who knows how many people will be inspired by your story and the replies generated by your discussion. It's circle of life here.

Well GTU you're part of that support team now too! You set a goal, went for it, and it's showing results. You're another one that proves it can be done. I know what you mean about getting into clothes - I went from a 48 (and climbing) to a 38. It's encouraging to go from XXL to just XL!

I'm tracking everything I eat, online. I'm using, but there are plenty of good sites to track your food and exercise. If the weather is nice, I park in the farthest parking spot at work so that I walk farther. And I don't take the elevator in the office (unless my hands are full).

Breakfast is usually one of: oatmeal, whole wheat bagel, or whole wheat English muffin (most days). For lunch I stick with a salad and soup as often as I can. You can't let yourself get bored, so mix it up when you can.

Lunch time is a great time to walk.

For dinner, I have two goals: Avoid carbs and maximize vegetables.

It's slow progress - about a pound a week, but so far so good.

You are making good progress! Congrats! A pound a week is a nice steady pace and it will help to make sure the weight stays off. Nice work!
