I couldn't handle the standard mri and the dr. said that he would schedule me for an "open" mri. I have never heard of that. Has anyone heard of it?

I have had 3 open MRIs. Plus my Imaging Center has headphones and you get to pick what Xm radio station you want to listen too. And me I picked the Nascar station. It makes the time fly by.

Yes Leigh I have had them and they are so much easier than the closed ones…that is the only way I can have one. Don't worry it's very easy to do.

Thank you Lanore. I don't know how anyone can handle those mri's… When I said that I needed to get out, no one was there. I think that they were developing the film. So, for 3 1\2 minutes I was in there wanting out. I got a major anxiety attack. It was horrible. I will never do that again. Thank you for sharing. I can go to this appt. stress free.

Well, as usual, I learned something new by being a member of this site. I had no idea that kind of MRI was even available. Thanks for the post!

Thank you all for you input and help. I truly appreciate it. I can go to the appt. without feeling terrified. I actually was planning on not going. But, if it is all open and all, I will go. Thank you very much

Hi Leigh
Just like Frustratedmom said it is open all around. My husband 6'5" doesnt fit into a MRI his shoulders and chest too large. He has to have an open MRI also. It is less stressful for those who dont like confined spaces, also the noise is not as bad.

Yes, my daughter had to have one a few years ago. There are no sides to it, you lay on this table like thing and it scans your body or the part that they need scanned. I do remember it is very loud…It is great if you are clostrphobic…
