Hi everybody! I am back after a little break. I was diagnosed in October with at A1c of 11. I was taking 1000mg metformin twice a day and after 3 months of counting carbs, and (mostly) working out, my morning numbers were still too high. I did however, manage to get my A1c down to 7.6, which was a huge improvement. I ended up going to the Joslin Diabetes Center (which is amazing, and I wish that you all had this near you.) My new doctor suggested that I might not be producing enough insulin as opposed to just having insulin resistance. She put me on Glipizide, which has been both wonderful and awful. My numbers are much better and usually under 130 in the morning. However, I am finding the lows very hard to manage and scary. I have started eating more to compensate, and I am checking my blood sugar more than 5 times a day. I hope that I will be able to get used to this and prevent the lows. Is anyone else taking Glipizide? What was your experience? How do you manage the lows?
