That's wonderful vesco. Congratulations! 5 miles, huh? I'm so full of questions. How long did it take you to get up to that point? How long does that typically take you to do. Where do you walk (around the neighborhood, a park, a track, etc)? Is it speed walking or regular?

vesco 2012-03-17 17:34:42 -0500 Report

Hey Young 1 thanks it took me about 6mo to get there with the 5miles ,5days aweek,i was already walking in the mall with some friends they are call mall walks up here & it depends on how fast i`m going & to if i use the treadmil or just walk the trail we have out were i live. Some times it may take me any were from 1hr to 2hrs .

Young1s 2012-03-17 17:58:56 -0500 Report

Wow. Well one more question if you will. How do you keep yourself motivated to keep going? I mean as far as the tiredness and/or tedium that can sometimes come into play. I think I've walked for about 40 mins on a few occasions, but that's because I had somewhere to be and opted to walk there.

vesco 2012-03-17 21:57:43 -0500 Report

Lol well it`s not that hard i just think about living 2 see my 15 teen & 10yr old girls grow up plus they keep me busy lol trying 2 keep up wit them & i have grand kids also, so if thats not something 2 keep one motivated tell me what will. & then i enjoy it now it`s part of how i start my day.

Young1s 2012-03-17 22:01:27 -0500 Report

Now how can I argue with beautiful motivations like that. Thanks for indulging me my questions and once again congratulations on your success. Keep doing it cause it's definitely working.

I got a short (in comparison to you that is) 25 min walk in today. Been spending the rest of the day celebrating my husbands birthday. Just got back from a lovely family brunch and thought I would pop in for a minute or two. Hope your having a great day too.

That's great.
I first read 5mile as Smile. Darn double vision had me picturing you walking along with a big ol' grin on your face making people wonder what you'd been up to..

vesco 2012-03-16 09:39:13 -0500 Report

Lol hey i do be smiling when i`m walking because it feels so good when i`m getting to the end of the walk i see the light @ the end of the tunnal so to speak lol & be glad that i`ve done it one more time.

Great job on the a1c and the 5 mile walks! I'm up to 1 1/2 - 2 miles per day, but 5 is superb and will definitely do wonders as it already has! Congratulations!!

That was a 25 lb Cobia. I was offshore about 12 miles trolling for Kings when he hit. Got a few tasty steaks out of that one! It's a very tasty fish.
I give myself a kick start almost every morning and do my walk. Later in the day I do a second brisk walk with the dog. Encouraging words are welcomed here also. thanks!

vesco 2012-03-16 09:46:42 -0500 Report

Hey jigsaw how`s things going 4 u to day, hope that all is well man don`t think i`ve heard of that kind og fish before have not seen it in the fish stores around here nor @ walmart lol. what kind of fish doe`s it taste like, well time 2 get 2 walking have a good day my friend.

jigsaw 2012-03-16 11:41:52 -0500 Report

In some ways, it's similar to Mahi, or Grouper as far as the meat is concerned. Hard to describe, but it's not a fishy taste at all. It looks like a shark, but it has no teeth. Still it is a very tough fish, and not a good idea to bring on the boat while it's green. It could do some serious damage to a boat ( very muscular and strong ). I think anyone who enjoys fish would enjoy Cobia.

Things here are going well ! I just finished putting down the weed and feed, heading into the shower, then some lunch and a nice walk ! After that, only the Almighty knows whats next. Hope your doing well and enjoying your walk!

pixsidust 2012-03-15 18:50:34 -0500 Report

No! Take credit where credit is due
You worked hard to do what you are doing
You really should share more
The changes you made, how you felt being diagnosed
What were your greatest challenges
What do your meals and snacks look like
How did you start exercising to get to a 5 mile walk
You could really inspire new and old people.
Make a new discussion out of it
so people will see its a new part of your story
and not think they have read it already in this one.
I would love to hear about this journey.

I am going to follow you, so please follow me back and lets be friends
