Hi all,

Just went to my Dr's and had my A1C tested it went down from 13 something to 7.0 dr was very impressed and my lipid numbers are much better as well I have gotten a bit lax with exercising and with eating veggies I only seem to like canned green beans . And I still need to lose weight. Any suggestions for staying motivated and not backsliding so I can keep this up and potentially reduce my insulin dose?

As edited in my reply below I meant to say, try putting up a picture of yourself up on your wall, of when you were at your ideal weight or a weight you want to get back to.

Progress was/is always a motivator for me. If I lost a pound last week, it's my goal to lose another this week. If my BG avearage last week was 97, this week's goal is 95. I also looked at the foods I could eat and kind of "iron chef" ways of making that into good meals for the week. It was actually a fun challenge.
Congrats on the good work also!

Congratulations on you progress. It feels good when you see your efforts paying off. Along with the other suggestions you've received, you might want to try putting up a picture of yourself up on your wall, of when you were at your ideal weight or a weight you want to get back to. I've recently done this for myself. I see you have on fraternity letters in your profile picture, are you still in school and a member? If still an active member, ask one or all of your frat brothers to join you in exercising or a weight loss challenge for a month. You can weigh in at the end of every week. Also, cafeteria food is a lot healthier nowadays, so promise yourself to try a new healthy food (salad, new vegetable, hearty soup, etc) at least once a day.

Congrats on these numbers, what an accomplishment. A trick that works for me is that I DON'T keep anything in the house that may be tempting to me should I backslide. I try to keep precut veggies in the frig for those times of temptation and I chew gum. This seems to help. The weather is getting warmer, there's nothing like a nice walk. Oh and I never wear sweat pants, I wear my jeans as a constant reminder of what I want to fit in. HOpe this helps. Good Luck!

I like the sweat pant trick! That is a good one. I gauge my weight loss on my britches too. They don't lie, well except by maybe the third day, when they are loose. But fresh from the dryer...they are the biggest motivators.

Awsome!!!! Get outside and do some walking. The weather is getting better and lots of fun things to do out of the house, and the sun will do you good as well. Gotta love that natural vitamin. Maybe have a friend walk with you?

My motivation, summer clothes, whoo hoo!

Promise to share again in 3 months...that will keep you motivated to want to share good numbers again. Not that we would think anything less of you if you didn't, but it is a good motivation for me.

Post your #'s somewhere in your home so you can see them everyday. You are doing very well. Keep those #'s moving in the right direction.
