Apples, they crunch, come in many variaties and don't spike my BG. I usually buy several types, this last week the Pacific Rose and Pinatas have been wonderful. Pinovas and Pink Lady are great too.
Red, yellow, and Gold Green Peppers, sweet, juice, crunchy could eat them three times a day, Great except I can't have too many. If I eat more than 1/2 every few days my legs feel "icky". They seem to affect the blood and my legs must not be healed enough yet, makes 'em feel like a swarm of skeeters is snacking on me.
Almonds in a little dab of Nutella or the store brand equvilant. It's chocolatey and dosn't need any other reason.
Strawberry or blueberry Greek yogurt mixed with cottage cheese, OK this turns into more of a meal, but I savor it slowly. Much better protein wise than a bowl of home made almond milk ice cream that needs to gobbled before it melts.Just open cartons and mix two ingredients together. Lots of protein. For some reason this year the strawberries and blueberries are not giving me an allergic reaction, so I am enjoying them.

A bag of potato chips and a bag of m&ms? Oh, wait, did I type that out loud? Sorry, I'm pretty new at this D stuff. Nabisco Social Teas with decaf coffee and cream, or a Dove Dark Chocolate Promise, or roasted almonds with a hint of maple syrup and sea salt. Yes, I like snacks!

I love Jello Brand Sugar Free Pudding snacks. The vanilla is smooth and creamy and sometimes if I'm extra good I have a sugar free wafer cookie or some almonds with it!

My go to favorite snack is a lg glass of unsweetened iced tea, w/4 low sodium Wheat Thins or low sodium Triscuits. (same amt of crackers. Only 4)

For some reason air-pop popcorn doesn't spike my sugars like other grains do. I can't eat 100% whole wheat, yet popcorn is my bedtime snack. I've been monitoring my BG and most mornings that I have it I'm anywhere from 82-122 when I wake up. Sprinkle a little Garlic salt on it and some PAM butter spray to hold the salt.

JSJB 2012-03-08 03:47:19 -0600 Report

Pop corn love it never thought of garlic salt and pam. I have learned so much on this web site like eating healthier.

My snack of choice are the Emerald brand Cocoa Roast or Cinnamon Roast Almonds. 24 almonds provide 6 grams of carb and satisfy my need for "CRUNCH". If I'm being especially indulgent, I'll take 1 square of Dove Dark Chocolate and top it with a spoonful of Smucker's all natural Peanut Butter for about 7 grams of carb. And yes, I am paying nearly a $1 more than before for the large jar of Smucker's PB…bummer!

pixsidust 2012-03-08 14:02:26 -0600 Report

Sounds good! I did not know almonds came like that!

They are sweetened with Splenda and are an especially good deal when the supermarket has them as a BOGO (Buy One Get One Free) offer! Right now, Publix in Florida has them as a BOGO.

OMG!!your not going to believe this, but I just got done eating a Caesar Salad, and for the first time I had last night I had 3 Russell Stover sugar-free candies my daughter bought them for me as a treat..they are sooo good hard not to eat the whole bag~

Mizzgreenjeanz 2012-03-08 19:38:24 -0600 Report

Take it from me…you don't want to eat tooo many. Most sugar free candies in quantity can make you run for the bathroom! Sadly, I know this from personal experience.

Well, how about meatballs? I always have a bag of them in the freezer (1/2 oz. size) either homemade or premade, and a serving is only 5 carbs. Nuke less than a minute, add mustard and voila-snack!

If I am going to be out and about my fav. snack food is a piece of low fat string cheese with 2 whole grain crackers. At home my favorite snack food would have to be fresh veggies cut up and fresh fruit. Sometimes I will add a dip made with fat free greek yogurt, dill weed, parsely, onion powder, garlic powder, pepper.

Nick1962 2012-03-06 10:39:59 -0600 Report

Slice of low salt ham spread with a little cream cheese rolled around a pickle spear.
Why? I guess it was just there and tasted good to me.

pixsidust 2012-03-06 09:42:43 -0600 Report

I love home made beef jerky
Freeze a cheap roast
Pull it out and slice it paper thin which you can do while its frozen
Line your oven shelves with foil and put the slices on them
Season them, we use, garlic, lemon pepper, season salt, or other spices
Leave it in the oven on just warm for 5-7 hours yum

Throw them in a paper lunch sacks to make serving sizes and absorb
and grease that came out of the meat…Low carb, protein rich, tasty, treat!

Gambling 2012-03-06 09:59:04 -0600 Report

never thought of that, will wait and get a roast on sale to try that out .

pixsidust 2012-03-07 15:05:40 -0600 Report

This gets eaten in 24 hours

We keep it in the fridge but really once bags are made and handed out
Poof its gone!

Love to snack on almonds. I never really ate them before I was diagnosed. And when I did, it was never in their raw form. Just another one of those good things that come from being diagnosed. I also like to snack on PB and celery too. But I've been eating that since I was a kid.

jigsaw 2012-03-07 12:30:26 -0600 Report

I was sitting here eating celery smeared with peanut butter when I came across your post. I thought to myself the price of peanut butter has become ridiculous. I saw a two jar combo in the grocery store for $14. At this rate, one could go broke purchasing the gas needed to go buy the peanut butter that is no longer affordable.

Young1s 2012-03-07 13:37:27 -0600 Report

It really is ridiculous.

jigsaw 2012-03-07 18:24:36 -0600 Report

Is somebody punishing PWDs. I love peanut butter, but it costs more then some cuts of meat.

Young1s 2012-03-07 18:56:59 -0600 Report

It certainly can be argued. I was never so happy to find the healthy/vegetarian foods aisle at my super market. Mind you it's the last aisle in a store of AT LEAST 15 aisles. Anyways, I can barely buy any of these foods because they are soo darn expensive. I got all excited when I found some Almond Butter there, but at $11 a jar, I won't be exploring that option any time soon.

I don't know if your children are still all living home, but if your feeding all those hungry mouths, I definitely feel for you.

i love peanut butter 2. It has always been in my house. I remember some hard times. We would eat PBJ all the time. I have one daughter , she will not eat PBJ anymore. Can't understand the price they are asking.

I know elephants are very large animals, but the last I heard, there is no shortage of peanuts. Are the peanut butter manufacturers owned by the oil companies???

I know, what ever the price, the positive is at least, you could never ask for more in return. It's written on all their faces.

ABSOLUTELY. Time for some bragging rights. My babies (okay they're all pretty much grown but still) are my pride and joy. They are all bright, outgoing, respectful, honest, and spiritual. And that's just a few of their awesome qualities. No more than 6 years from the oldest to the youngest but each as individual as they come. I have an aspiring teacher, minister, athlete and singer in the making. They fill my days with love, excitement, wonder and the occasional headache. When I say I have great children it's an understatement. I couldn't possibly be prouder.

jigsaw 2012-03-07 20:40:19 -0600 Report

i can appreciate your joy! You certainly deserve it. That is the most worthwhile joy anyone can achieve, and I know it's not easily accomplished. I congratulate you for being a great mom!!!

Makes an interesting comment about the "food" sold in our grocery stores doesn't it, last aisle of 15.

Young1s 2012-03-07 19:18:11 -0600 Report

Well to be sort of fair, it probably has to do with the refrigeration units for the perishables. Those foods aren't with the "regular" refrigerated or freezer foods. But the aisle doesn't pop like the others and I could just be tripping but I swear the lighting is even a little dimmer.

Caroltoo 2012-03-07 19:23:07 -0600 Report

True, but I was thinking more of the 1/15th of the stores space more than the "last" aisle part of it.

Unbelievable! My daughter and her husband have two boys age 9 and 11. It's fascinating to ( watch ) them raise these kids! Fortunately, the boys seem happy and well adjusted, but I know it's like feeding two hungry crocodiles!
