Frustrated (or, surprise! you're not really a T2)

I've been having some serious issues keeping my BG under control the past 4-5 months. My A1c had been in the 6 range for some time (years), and it hopped up to 9.4 in December, and this after more than doubling my Lantus and really scaling up the Humalog. Today I went to see a new doctor, who is running some tests, but who is fairly certain I'm really a Type 1.5 (LADA).

So how do I go 14 years and see literally dozens upon dozens of doctors in that time, and not one of them can spot this? Can things change that much? Can the type change? And why isn't there a Type 1.5 category on here so I can annoy others with this diagnosis? ~laughs~

Just blowing off some steam…thanks for giving me a spot to vent.

Alana, that's ok to vent. This is one big "happy" (yeah, RIGHT!) family. LoL!

Actually as I understand it 1.5 or LADA diabetes is a difficult diagnosis to make because it acts like both types of diabetes at the same time.

It has been spoken of much on DC there is a whole list of discussions on Type 1.5 LADA diabetes. Find them here ~ Take note of the various folks who have been identified as type 1.5.

Things have not changed that much, the Drs did their best, I believe. Just it is a difficult diagnosis to make a determination of 1.5.

I pray that you get a good determination just what type your diabetes is.

Blessings to you and yours

Thanks, James! Duh, I hadn't thought to do a search. Good thing there are those with clearer heads to point out the obvious to the temporarily flummoxed.

That is the beauty of this site, and there are times I forget to search for things with which I am affected! Sometimes one gets flummoxed because it is so very close to home. Sometimes it takes someone with a bit of distance from the problem to see clearly. At least for me I can't see my situation clearly (except in the rear-view mirror)
