Nutritional typing is yet another way to look at your bodies needs and find what foods work best for you. It is for all people, not just those with diabetes, and the purpose is to determine which enterotype you belong to. The three possibilities are: 1. carb/veggies, 2. protein, and 3. mixed.

These three types relate to microorganisms populating our gut, how our food is processed, which types of enzymes your gut produces most of, etc. We may not need all the details though they are interesting for some of us, but what we do need to do is to match of dietary intake to the foods our own digestive systems can best utilize. We say it all the time: we are all different and what works for one won't work well for another.

This connective link will take you to the nutritional typing test. When I went in to do mine, I did have to register for the free site newsletter, but it's easy to cancel if all you want is the test. The results of the Nutritional-Typing will allow you to move on into the Nutritional Navigator Dashboard which I found rather fascinating once I figured out how to enter my meals and recipes for a very clear analysis of what I'm eating.

The site also sells supplements. I checked the list that came up with my testing and found I was already taking the ones he recommended. I prefer to buy my supplements from local sources, so that's all I used this section for. There is a lot of information on the site. How much you use is up to you.

You may recall from the previous discussion, my result was mixed. Fortunately I bookmarked the Health Navigator page because try as I might I can't seem to get to it any other way. Do you know of an easier way through the site itself?

Caroltoo 2012-03-03 20:39:04 -0600 Report

You can go in on the link, repeat the test, and go through like you did last time. I had to do that the second time I went in. Then, I bookmarked the Health Navigator page and have found that the easiest way in.

That was fun! My result was MIXED. His recipes are incredible!!!!

Young1s 2012-03-04 12:37:25 -0600 Report

Yes they are, but not too many of them for the MIXED type. But I guess that's because, being MIXED, we can incorporate any of them into our diets.

Hey! So how do you access the other 2 Type recipes??

Young1s 2012-03-04 13:49:19 -0600 Report

There are two Nutritional Typing downloads. One shows the food charts, meal instructions, meal ideas, and daily tips for each type. The other is the 290+ page download called Healthy Recipes For Your Nutritional Type. That's the one that has CT, PT and MT in parenthesis after some of the recipes. But not all of the recipes have these designations following them

Ok I get it—thanks! I went on the other day, took the test, and perused recipes with the intention of going back later and immersing myself in the site.

I'm a protein type, so I'll look at mine and see if it looks different. I really thought it was the same cookbook for all.

On the dashboard, you will find another group of recipes (or at least another set up, though perhaps the same recipes) that you can plan into your meals. The dashboard has your type setting and helps guide you to ones that are type appropriate.

dietcherry 2012-03-04 16:36:42 -0600 Report

Carol I didnt linger there the other day and realize that all the Type recipes were included together. My bad.

Young1s 2012-03-04 16:04:09 -0600 Report

I just compared the salad section of the Healthy Recipes download to the recipes on the dashboard. They're pretty much all there, so my assumption is that it's the same for all of the other recipes in the download. But the dashboard has a lot of other recipes that are not a part of the Healthy Recipes download.

My result is mixed…

dietcherry 2012-03-04 11:48:05 -0600 Report

Do you think you will incorporate his suggestions for eating?

Caroltoo 2012-03-04 15:22:21 -0600 Report

Over a little further in his material, he suggests that a MINIMUM of 1/3 of our food be eaten raw. Didn't see a maximum, just that 33% is the least raw food we should be consuming.

Ha! I hear you. Never understood the appeal of sushi. No offense but some tastes I'd rather not acquire.

Caroltoo 2012-03-04 21:50:10 -0600 Report

I enjoy a good grade of ahi sashimi, but that's the only fish/seafood I feel ok eating uncooked. Salads, fruit, and many veggies are my primarily uncooked foods. Poke is a big thing here — many types of raw fish and veggies in a marinade — but I avoid most. I like some of the flavors, but aren't too comfortable with uncooked seafood, particularly none of the bottom dwellers.

dietcherry 2012-03-04 22:10:09 -0600 Report

Agreed. Its not something I choose to eat, and I know that many many people enjoy sushi without problems.

Pretty neat, isn't it? The dashboard gives such detailed information, I was just fascinated with it and played with it for several hours the day I found it.

dietcherry 2012-03-04 11:12:45 -0600 Report

May I ask how long youve used this system and the benefits youve experienced? I see that it is an extremely healthy way to eat and anyone WOULD benefit!!

Caroltoo 2012-03-04 15:27:56 -0600 Report

I did the typing several years ago when I stumbled on the test in another source. I typed my food intake, thought it best fit what I knew about myself, and started using that information. Shared some with my doc at the time who was not well versed in nutrition and laughed at the idea that "anyone in the US would need more protien". Well, obviously there are lots who do, so that was pure ignorance. I just ignored him and continued on my quest.

I've just found Mercola's site a week ago, so I'm totally new to the dashboard and just learning how to enter the recipes, etc. It just really impressed me because it seems so much more complete than anything I have encountered elsewhere. There are spots that give us carb counts for a recipe. This gives the nutritional count for a full day's meals, by the meal and by the day. I am just finding all this information fascinating!

locarbarbie 2012-03-03 06:35:18 -0600 Report

I had taken this a while ago and tested for "protein type". I had kind of eaten this way anyway and take supplement when I can afford them, LOL. I have not taken it to the level of the dashboard thing or really looked at the recommended supplements. I will have to take another look.

I do get Dr Mercola's newletters and feel that he has some amazing info. There are a few topics that are a bit flakey but overall I trust his insight.

Caroltoo 2012-03-03 06:56:38 -0600 Report

There is an incredible amount of information on that site. Makes it a little like digging for buried treasure.

jayabee52 2012-03-02 23:25:56 -0600 Report

I tested as a "Mixed" type. Thank you for sharing this. I had been seeing you and others talking about this and I tried to find it myself but was not having success.

Unfortunately the computers here at the apt complex have a program which blocks many webhosting programs and many advertisements, so could not download the recipe book or the nutritional information for my type (bummer!)

Gambling 2012-03-03 14:53:16 -0600 Report

I should be able to send you the pdf recipe book just send me your email address to me inbox

Caroltoo 2012-03-03 05:13:37 -0600 Report

I stumbled onto this after viewing the GMO foods farming video. I finally bookmarked it because it was really hard to find for me also when I tried to come from the home page. If I hadn't known it was there, I'd never have gotten to it.

I think I have the pdf for the cook book. Would your system let me send it to you?

jayabee52 2012-03-03 18:54:06 -0600 Report

I just replied to Gambling's offer. I expect I'll get it that way! Do you have the PDF on the nutritional info for the "mixed" type?

Caroltoo 2012-03-04 00:41:23 -0600 Report

I was thinking of something I printed out from the site yesterday that elaborated on this process, not about the original PDF file you were asking about. Yes, I have a copy of what they sent me. I presume it is for all, not just the protein type. I'll need to find your email to send it to you. Easier if you would just pm it to me again so I don't have to hunt.

Caroltoo 2012-03-03 18:57:50 -0600 Report

No, I'm protein and I had to cut and paste it over to one of my word docs to get it as it wasn't printing the first page of any section directly from his website. I also found the advanced Lifestyle changes and one other advanced one didn't print at all.

Caroltoo 2012-03-02 20:13:29 -0600 Report

NOTE: when you go to the first page, you have to go ALL the way to the bottom of the page to find a big yellow button where you click to move on into the test.
