Celebrating National Nutrition Month with a New Community Contest

We know it can be difficult to stay on top of healthy eating habits. But do you think a chance to win up to $200 might help motivate you?

We want to celebrate March, which is National Nutrition Month, with a fun contest to encourage members to share their healthy choices and ideas for healthy eating. The contest will be held on Sleep Connect, Diabetic Connect, Heart Connect, Arthritis Connect, and Obesity Connect.

Here’s how it works. Once a day, update your status (on your profile page) with info about what you’re doing to eat healthier. To help us track entries, please begin each update with “HealthyEats:” That’s it!

Here’s how the prizes will work:
To be entered in the drawing for the $50 gift card,
you must update your status on 7 days or more in March.

To be entered in the drawing for the $100 gift card,
you must update your status on 14 days or more in March.

To be entered in the drawing for the $200 gift card,
you must update your status on 21 days or more in March.

Healthy East - I feel great today, a lot less pain, got my long acting shot yesterday and it is starting to work. I am still struggling with my late night eating but am choosing healthier snacks! That's a start

Hi Edna, how are you, I do apologize for such a late response! I unfortunately, I had a stomach virus since Tuesday, and boy I had a very long week!! Thank GOD I'm feeling much better now. I just want to encourage you, at least you're on your way to healthy eating, hang in there, it will pay off!!!!

Edna, this is not the place to enter the contest, if that was your intent. Go to the text box (right above the smilies) in YOUR profile, start out with "Healthy Eats" and then post the entry there!

Today I am going to not gorge after dinner, I know I need a snack but then I have eaten out of control in the evenings… My FBS was 210 today??? From eating too much last night or did I forget my insulin last night? I don't think so. Any suggestions for the late night munchies?

OK I remember what I ate last night and they were delicious, but not delicious enough to have a FBS of 210… Ugh Ugh I ate ice cream and had a Strawberry/Banana smoothie, at least I didn't forget my insulin, I have a system to help me remember and it worked… I just didn't know for sure when I woke up in a fog. LOL I forget sometimes even after all these years I can't eat like normal people.

I know it is too late now, but whenever I had a higher reading, I want to wash my hands with soap and water and dry them thrououghly.

Often my numbers are up because there's a residue of something on my fingers which raises my Blood Glucose readings. If I get a higher than expected reading, I often retest. I am learning to wash and dry fingers now before I test the first time!

Great answer, Yes you are so right and I will remember when I get a high reading like that… So true… I try to always wash them before I test but I did not do that, it was so unexpected when my fastings have been between 86 and 84 Thanks Jayabee52

Hey John? What kinds of posts should be making exactly??? Ive seen members post their meals for each day; is this okay? Or should we be doing something different? I wrote about starting fiber to increase insulin sensitivity—is that okay?? Thanks!

Posting what you're eating or what you're changing are both perfectly acceptable. We really just want to encourage people to think and talk about making healthy changes to their diet.

Go to the top of this page where it says "how do you feel?" Type in "Healthy Eats" to flag it for them, and then tell them what you have done today that is healthy eating. Some of us tuck in other health related comments like exercise also.

It's for you to create in your profile. All you have to do is go your profile page and post in the box that says How Do You Feel. Start it with "Healthy Eats:" and go from there to state what it is you're eating healthy that day or doing to eat healthier.

jayabee52 - Thanks for reminding me to read the rules, somehow I missed that! UGH… I have been posting everyday but not specific to the healthyeats, so I will have to read up on that. I have been posting my meals every day in the 21day guide. :>) so on I go to read about healthy eats… I am so excited about this change to get more healthy and if I would win the contest that would be just a bonus!

Today I have refined my goals a little more and define them and helped to put a time line to them. My pre dinner BS 120 My Weight 234. I have also decided to get my hug badge so all y'all gonna get a big big HUG! :)

The days you post this on your profile wall do NOT have to be consecutive days as I understand, just the total days should be 21 if you want to be in the running for the biggest prize. Read the rules (link at bottom in original post) There are lesser prizes available also.

thanks jayabee52, I have been posting hear as this is the contest discussion but I will read the rules again. I am feeling better about my self but there is lots of need for improvement. I read Dr. Gary's article and that helped me immensely.

Thanks for this challenge, even if I don't win, I will be a winner by being more healthy. My Goal for today will to read the 21 day guide… As I read this I will be thinking of other goals and my long term goal is definitely to get my diabetes in better control and A!c of 6 or lower! Edna

Sounds great. May even inspire some of us to do better and stick with it. I've heard many of times that it only take 21 days for your body to get used to a change in your sleeping habits. Maybe the same could hold true for eating as well.

Yes, you are so right. I have done a lot of research and consistently trying to improve for 21 days really helps… however when the 21 days are up you need to continue to reinforce you new found habits. Good Luck to you Young1s and a big Hug for you too! :>)

Caroltoo I so agree and I like to call it a way of eating, to me that removes a lot of the stigma of "diet" and I don't beat my self up when I eat off plan so there is not so much guilt. but I do Have to get back on the correct way of eating.
