Check out our first-ever poll on medicine and supply costs on the home page! We created the polling feature so you can compare your experiences and opinions with other member’s – just one more way to share and receive knowledge in the community.

For example, have you ever wondered if you spend more than most diabetics on your prescriptions and medical supplies? Now, you’ll be able to compare with people like you and get the info you need to take better control of your diabetes. We’ll also use the polls to get feedback on site features to help us better grow and develop your community.

Let’s get it started! Vote in the first poll and share further details in the related discussion thread.

We don't have a regular poll schedule – we'll post them as we have new topics and the frequency could vary by how quickly people respond. The next one should probably come next week.

I like polls …I agree with red flower lady… because I live in the country and don't drive I have to pay a driver to get me to see my doctors..$15.00 round trip is not so bad..but if you have a few to go to in 1 week it sure adds up..

I was a bit confused on where to find the poll but alas I re-read your post here and thus was able to do the poll as well.

My out-of-pocket expenditures in 2012 have come from supplies and one doctor's visit and resulting labs. I have medicare and a medicare suppliment insurance plan, so for me the more pertinent question is how much do I pay for my insurance which so far has covered most of my diabetes related expences without even a copay. (My deductible was covered late enough last year, so it went to cover this year's deductible.) I am not on any medications, so that also reduces the cost dramatically!

This would be a whole different comment if I were using insulin, for example.

That my friend is so true. You would think insulin would be so much more affordable.

Yes. insulin paid for without insurance is soo expensive! They run well over $100.00 a vial and us insulin users need more then one vial and usually more then one kind of insulin, then add in the cost of all the supplies that go with using it and well, you'll be broke. But you can get help from the pharmacutical co and your dr can take care of that for you as mine did or you can call them yourself. Also call your health dept and they will send you to the dr they use based on a sliding fee scale and you can get your insulin from free to $30.00 as well as your other meds.

have you contacted the maker of your insulin? Often they have programs which give you the insulin free or at a much reduced cost. Please contact them!

have one of those, it helps with my oral medication but would only cover $1 - $5 of my insulin. I am in contact with the makers of my Lantus pen and the application is in progress now but my other pen I am having trouble finding help.
