I am motivated by my family. I have lots of people who love me and I don't want to leave them too soon.

Hi Barbara, I read, "When the Dr. Has Bad News.". I also read everything I could about D so that I could understand more about what was going on with my body! best Wishes, Louise

I don't read books for motivation or listen to motivational speakers. I am a self motivator. I also inspire myself to do things. For instance, if I see something I want to do or make, I will read all that I can find about it. Then I decide if I want to do it.

I find that in order to be motivated, all a person has to do is get up and do it. I think too many people spend too much time thinking to the point they over think something and in the process, they talk themselves out of acting.

Have you ever heard a person say, I would love to do something and never do it? This happens because they are waiting for someone to be their sounding board, to motivate them or to give them inspiration.

You can easily motivate yourself. Start with a bucket list of things you want to do. Post the list on your fridge where you can see it. Look it over and see what is the easiest to accomplish. Once you have completed it scratch it off and move on to the next item. Before you know it you will realize that you have started motivating yourself and saved money on a book.

A good one I was recommended was called Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker…You can find it on I hope this helps as it was meant too.

Howdy Barbara!

For my motivation I come here to DC every day. Something about this site motivates me to be better about my diabetes care. Between the knowledge I gain here and the emotional support I gain from the folks here, I get all of the motivation I really need.

Sorry I don't have a book title to give you.

Blessings to you and yours my friend

I have not read it, but there are many folks here who have enjoyed "Diabetes for Dummies" It can get you back to basics and on the road to motivation.

I am currently reading one called "You Can Heal Yourself" by Louise Hay. It is a motivational book through positive self talk and attacking what our negative thoughts often do to our bodies. I am using it for a year journey that I am taking to better health through mind power. I am liking it a lot and the more positive things you tell yourself, the more motivated you are to actually do things that will get you going in the right direction. At least that is what I have found.

I don't know of a book. What motivated me was the suffering of people I knew who didn't take their diabetes seriously.
