i don't know if this is a diabetic issue or not and i don't care. I know that there is a mass of knowledgeable people out here in DC land, so i ask for guidance. The other night while eating in a restaurant, i began to sweat. Now, it may have been hot and/or i may have been overdressed. In addition to this i began to shake a bit as in hand tremors, body different temps in different places. i finished eating (I am too cheap to leave food that i was paying for) went out into the colder air and felt somewhat better, but because i was sweating, i was now getting chilled. Got into my truck and began to drive. My BG was 240, but since that was right after eating pizza that did not seem to be the problem. While driving all of the lights on cars, overhead were haloed, for lack of a better word. it lasted for my 45 minute trip. I took a shower at my daughters, body temp evened out and everything has been okay since. Any ideas?

How you reacted is how I am when low BG, the lower the worse the effect. As to highs, I don't experience this. I've had one reading where the meter stated to high, but I felt fine. Other time was 593 one Thanksgiving and I just felt ill. Now my father-in-law can't handle BG over 210, over this and its to the ER for him. Different for each of us, good luck!

I have been in the high 500's and the low 600's with no observable side effects. If I get below 80 my thinking starts to go whacky. I wish I had had my BP machine with me, because the 240 right after eating is not bad for me.

Well Jim all I can say is you need to get your numbers lower and pizza is not a good choice . If 240 is you low you need better control of your BS.

My pizza intake is about 2 slices a month. it is one of those foods i decreased dramatically from the start.

Yup, that's how spikes effected me. Heck I'd sweat in the shower, and as I got older and more overweight it got worse. I'd actually turn red in the face - something about blood flow to the head. And there wasn't an antiperspirant alive that could stop it. The morning "liver dump" was the worst. Once I got slimmed down a bit, and leveled out my sugars, it all stopped.

Worse than that she invited me to her home to drive her mother around to her doctor appointment for 2 weeks.

Well did you take her up on it? If it works out you can drop your dating websites memberships. LoL!

I have met a lady on the same website through which I met my "Jem" Dating4 Disabled. We talked on the phone for the 1st time last night. We had a very nice chat and plan to do it again tonight. She is not in LV but had been contemplating moving here. Interesting how things work out.

Good, I hope it works. I am waiting for my first date with a lady. First time she ended up in the ER the day before, second time she emailed me from the bathroom floor at 2;30 AM. she & her daughter had the stomach flu. It just goes to show you that I can make a woman sick! Why would anyone contemplate moving to LV? She has to be nuts!

jayabee52 2012-02-21 13:45:41 -0600 Report

Well she'd HAVE to be nuts to get entangled with a medically messed up character such as me, just as I was nuts to fall in love with Jem and move to the "Land of fruits and nuts" and live in the SF bay area with its high cost of living. (cue the song ♫♪ "fools rush in where angels fear to tread" ♫♪)

"Q" my posible new love interest has some friends who play scrabble tournaments and she'd like a partner who is copacetic with that, and who can live with her physical limitations. She speaks with a "speech impediment" with which I have no problem. she also has some other limitations but I am OK with these too, as Jem had similar limits. But all in all she is much healthier than was Jem, and that is nice.

She and a former (ex) husband has been to LV a couple times before and says she likes it here. It would be nice not to have to uproot myself again and move to a new city. Might have to move to a new house or apt, but that would not be as stressful as moving to a new city / environment.

High numbers will affect your vision, causing it to blur. I remember that once when I had hit a 400, my eyes had a hard time focusing. Once I got down into a much better place that cleared up.

I will also sweat if I get to high after a meal. Pizza would make me do that. I rarely eat it anymore because it is not worth the mess I am after.

I have been to the 500 and 600's without eye issues. This was only 240 after eating pizza. 240 has been low for me!

jayabee52 2012-02-21 13:02:07 -0600 Report

Well Jim the vitreuous humor, (VH) the clear gel in the eyeball, takes on the extra Blood Glucose (BG) slowly and when the BG is down it releases it slowly due to the type of substance that it is. If you caught your 500 or 600 at its height and went right down the VH didn't have enough time to absorb all the extra BG. That may have accounted for lack of eye issues at those times.

Over time, having bg not controlled, your body can act differently. I don't know how often your numbers are off, but diabetes has a mind of it's own. I have had some highs and lows that should have kicked my rearend, and yet I felt good, and have been in range and felt awful. The drs just shook their heads. I know it wasn't good to have those numbers and worked to get them back in range.

I hope you are feeling better now.
