I have wonderful news to share with my DC family…me & my fiance Shaun are expecting a little bundle of joy very soon. I need to have an ultrasound performed to determine whether it would be a boy or a girl, but I'm very grateful for this momentous occasion! Since this is my very first child and also taking in consideration that I'm also a Type II diabetic, I was wondering if anybody had any helpful information in regards to my current situation. As always, I've deeply appreciated everything that my friends have contributed to so much that has happened to me; so from the bottom of my heart I thank you very much!!!

To all of my DC friends who've given me so much support, love and appreciation throughout this difficult but joyous process…thank you! They're saying that it's too early to determine if it's a boy or a girl, but the good news is that I'm 8 weeks (2 months) in :)

Hi! I have gone through pregnancy recently as a type II diabetic so I wanted to respond with some information:
-your blood sugar control will probably be better or the same for a while in your pregnancy, but at some point in your 2nd or 3rd trimester it will get harder to control. Maybe a lot harder, and this is not your fault- itʻs the hormones.
-you will probably have several ultrasounds and a LOT of visits to a high-risk OB/GYN. I had, no joke, about 10 ultrasounds, with a couple at the beginning to confirm the stage of pregancy and a few at the end to confirm that the amniotic fluid level was OK. The ones in the middle were very detailed ultrasounds where they looked carefully at all of the babyʻs organs to make sure he was developing OK with no birth defects.
-your doctor might encourage you to have a C-section.
-some of the information you will get about birth defects, large babies, etc. is scary, but lots of diabetic women have healthy babies. My baby was and is healthy.
-if you want to do something that is awesome for your blood sugar and good for your baby- breastfeed! It is the best "medication" for blood sugar control that you can ever have. Breastfeeding burns a lot of calories…it is like your body is exercising all day and all night.

YES! We did not care whether it was a boy or a girl. Both girls and not disappointed that there was no boy. Today at 31 & 32, they are the pride of Daddy's life. May you and the baby be healthy and Blessed. Eat well and start your baby off with good eating habits. For my 4 year old granddaughter treats are "Anika, do you want an apple for a treat or 2 carrot sticks?" Now she does get ranch dip with the carrots! Her soda intake in life has been zero. Candy, probably about 1/5 of what other kids get. She likes crackers and gets a few cookies. her favotire foods are fruit and vegtables. So help keep your diet and health in line while getting your baby on the right track. Jim

Congratulations! The doctor and nurses will monitor you very carefully so listen to them. But also monitor yourself very carefully. Do NOT give in to cravings that are not healthy. Walk!!! I had gestational diabetes with all my kids and they were born healthy, normal, although a bit early which is the opposite of what they tell you to expect. Remain stres free and when you need to rest- rest. Prayers for a healthy, happy pregnancy and birth!

Congratulations Aldora, that s wonderful news. So happy for both of you and fiancé, what do you when, a boy or girl?
They’ll be monitoring you more closely, if you’re not on insulin, they will probably put you on it. She’s was an OB RN for over 20 yrs. So keep a close watch on your diet and sugar. I wish only the best you.

Hi, Aldora, and congratulations on that little bundle of joy you are now expecting. Pregnancy can be one of the best times of life for you; a time when you feel spectacularly well and healthy. It's a time for Type 2's to really watch their highs and lows carefully, because the tighter your control and tendancy towards that midine, the healthier babies growing environment will be. That's not said to stress you out, but just to say when you get an unexpected high, take an expected walk and bring it down; or, if you have a low, have little snack.

As for parenting, with an attitude of patience and the desire to teach from day one (or even in the womb), it can be a magical time for you. Above all, ENJOY!

Congratulations, it is gonna be a wild ride:) Pregnancy is great, even with the little surprises that can come along the way. Those are what gives us mothers bragging rights.

I'm not type 2, so the only thing I can suggest is to work closely with your dr, maybe see a nutritionist to determine what and how much more to eat for your meds and the baby, and get that exercise in. There are great videos for pregnancy or do swimming, stretching, walking. Start a daily journal now so you'll have it not just for yourself, but for the baby, add pictures too:)

It is gonna be so exciting, and I can't wait for picture:>

I also want to add to those who congratulate you at this wonderful news, Aldora!
My wife (now ex) gave us 3 sons in our 25 yrs together and she had gestational diabetes for each of her 3 pregnancies.

With our first son he stayed in too long, which we were told that babies of People with Diabetes tend to do. On subsequent pregnancies she was induced earlier so that didn't happen again. Just take good care of yourself and your diabetes, and you should have a healthy child and you'll be have the ability to care for your little one well.

Praying for you and your baby to have a healthy and safe pregnancy and delivery.
