This is a Must do. List all Meds and Insulin dose and time. For a Diabetic, this is Life Support Information. Any person taking Meds should also do this even if not a Diabetic.

DONT FORGET TO PUT A NAME AFTER YOUR ICE SO THEY WILL KNOW WHO THEY ARE TALKING TO, WHEN YOU HAVE YOUR LIST OF MEDS YOU ARE TAKING BUT THEM WITH YOUR INSURANCE CARD SO THAT PARAMEDICS CAN FIND IT QUICKLY. 2 WEEKS AGO I HAD A MILD HEART PROBLEM AN WAS TRANSPORTED TO UMC HOSPITAL THEY ASKED FOR BOTH AN I TOLD THEM, IN MY WALET WITH MY CARD AN THAT MADE THEM VERY HAPPY. THEY PASSED THE INFO TO THE ER ROOM DOCS AN OFF I WENT TO HAVE A ANGIOPASTIE DONE. ALSO LIST ALL PAST PROBLEMS THAT YOU HAVE HAD, IT MAKES THE ER DOCS JOB EASYER AN THE WORK GETS DONE QUICKER, AN THE QUICKER YOU GET OUT OF THE HOSPITAL..

This is a new one to me. I read an article just yesterday, saying you can also put info in your cell phone, just use ICE (in case of emergency). I don't have anything yet but I'm going to try out these web sites and fill some out.
Thank you for bringing this up. If it wasn't for this site we would probably never know about this stuff. Why don't Doctors and your insurance company tell you things like this. When your new to diabetes, you don't know what to ask or expect, so your really out in the dark.
I really love this site and all of you for helping us to know diabetes alot better.
Debbie

One word of caution when you use ICE is to list first names and don't list who they are. If your phone is stolen or lost, someone can reverse track you thru that information...so just be careful about what you put in it.

Thank you for that info, so do you only put first names in on all of your list of names?

There is a great website to visit that will give you a form to fill out and print. Then you just cut the printed card out and put it in your wallet. It list medical conditions, meds, and contact info. and it is an actual med card. They do not keep your info so you just go back and update as needed. The site is www.medids.com/phorm/phorm.php
Give it a try.

I use the computer also to list all of my medications, then reduce the print size & laminate the card for my purse. It's easy to do & you can change the list at any time from storing in a file on the computer.Your Dr can copy thru the lamination for his needs.

I believe the restrictions are for people on insulin.

So if you are on an oral med then your ok, but if you take insulin then you lose it…thats is confusing…OH well..

My brother was a truck driver also and they would allow him to drive as long as his physicals didn't show elevated sugar levels and he kept on his meds.

HOWEVER, what is really bad is that he would work around the system and he was never very disciplined in taking his meds. He just shined at the physical, and they passed him thru. The system has a lot of loop holes and I am sure my brother was not the only one skirting the issue. Trucking was the only thing he knew, and loosing it to diabetes was not something he wanted...but he didn't deal with it in the right way at all. He was a stubborn man in that way.

he is not the only one! we knew of many who skirted around the system. not only with diabetes but serious heart problems. scary isn't it!

When I was working I had a MedicAlert necklace that said I was diabetic also allergic to penicillian. I paid something like 45.00 for two years membership. With this membership ,you are linked up to their computer 24/7.On this computer you have listed your meds. emergency contact,Diseases like Dibetes, I have COPD also.Your doctors and their phone numbers anything that you would like for Emc or emergency room to see.I didn't think this was bad for all you can do with it. They also have a web site now. They have their phone number at MedicAlert on the necklace.

We have here what is called the "vial of life". It is a perscription bottle that has our medical information, DNR info and other contact information. We have one in the frige with a magnet on the front to alert EMTs to look for it. We also carry one in the car (well, we did until we lost the car...) My husband carries one with him at all times because he has a pump that manages his pain that people need to know about.

I would also like to have one for my Mothers info. I wouldn't mine even having one in the glove compartment too. Forgot about them…Thankd Debe

I forget where we got ours. But if you still have the bottle, just put your most current info in there. My husbnd keeps his info on the computer so we can print it out if we go to a new doctor or something.
Yes, they are not much good if they are not current.

I never put actual meds in it, just the papers with the info on them. Are you supposed to put meds in there?? That would be pretty yucky for the car one. LOL

I had never heard of "vial of life". I looked it up and registered and filled out the papers and printed 3 copies. This is fabulous. One I will carry, one will stay in the house and one in the car. Thanks Gabby for mentioning this.

Lanore,

Great idea about the vitamins as well. I know I take 6 different oral meds a day plus 2 different insulins…only the insulin and 1 of the meds is a prescription the rest of them are herbs and vitamins that I take. Always make sure you tell your doctor what herbs and vitamins you are taking and make sure it is on the list as well.

I have made list of my medications on the computer. I go in a make changes as needed. I print a sheet out every time I see a MD so I just give it to them and they could just attach it to my chart. I also have my Mother carry one in her wallet for me so if I not in any condition at the time of treatment she would be clueless to all my medication. I put one in the glove compartment just incase we don't have our purses with us. My brother although he is out of town, also has a list of both Mom and my medicine. He is also a nurse and suggested we do this. If he should a phone call he also could let the hospital know whats going on in case of an emergency. I also keep one in my bag with my moniter…Debe
