If a child is diabetic in school, do you feel the other students in his classroom should know this fact?

I do. I was one of them. I think the only ones that knew were my Mother and teachers and the school nurs. I was wondering what the procedure is these days. I look back now(30 years later) and think what if something happen to me when the teachers wasn't around. If I was a child and someone passed out in front of me I would of thought they were dead. What would yu of thought? Do you think the public should be more aware about diabetes? Do you feel children shuld know other children are effected by this today? I do… The think the public needs to be educated and it should also start in the school system at an early age…Debe

Debe-

you know I am all over this topic. Most of the kids in my daughters class know she is diabetic. Her closest friends even know what she has to do to eat, test and get her sugars up. This ties into the other post about telling people you have diabetes. The more people that are educated about what the disease is and what is necesary to keep yourself healthy the better off you will be. Her bus driver knows as well, and knows that she has a special pocket in her back pack to get a snack if she is feeling low. I can't imagine what it would have been like if something had happened to you when you were in school and no one new what to do???!!!! I am so thankful that people are more involved and want to understand at least the basics.

thanks for this post
