My DR. told me when I started Lantus 30 units per day my appetite would increase. He said that is one of the side effects. Well, he was right. I find myself hungry all the time. Any suggestions how I can curb my appetite? No , I refuse to sew my mouth shut.

How are your BG's? I was on Lantus for several years, and I didn't have any unusual hunger. I would think if you're hungry, maybe your BG is running a bit low (which will definitely cause hunger) and that's what's making you hungry - not the Lantus.

I don't use Lantus but some of the other meds I take make me really hungry at times. I paint or knit, anything to keep my hands busy and my mind off food. Drinking water or tea helps too.

I also take Lantus (40 Units) and I didn't realize there was a connection of my appitite at first to the med…(hence why I have fired my Doc, and am seeing my new one on Tuesday). I will say that it did level out for me. I think it was about 3 weeks or so, which seems like forever, but you will get thru it…

I use..Sunflower seeds
I actually go to sams club and buy the big bucket…hehehe
celery sticks is great
Water…Lots and lots of water…
I also chewed about 5 lbs of gum during those few weeks…

I know its hard, but it does eventually ease up…

Blessed Be

P.S. I think you should use bright green floss when you sew your mouth shut..and send pictures…LOL

I need the same advice. lol But really, when I had mine increased, I was hungry for weeks, but it did finally level out again. Hang in there!

Awww, come-on. Everyone looks great with stitches thru the lips. LOL

I don't know about the ways that meds make those feelings so strong, but days when I am feeling like I could eat everything in the frige, I try to drink a lot of water. I mean a lot. Chug down a 16 oz bottle and wait to see if it helps. The other thing I try to do is keep safe foods available in the house. I find a hand full of nuts helps a lot. Or I fuss with some sunflower seeds in the shells to keep me busy. Celery with peanutbutter is a handy one too. Or Carrots with hummus.

The best thing though and the most calorie free, is keeping busy. If I can keep my mind distracted thru it, I usually find I can make it thru. It doesn't always work, but I keep my focus on something non-food related, and I am good....until next time.
