I am thinking of trying out meal replacement shakes for awhile-just to give my weight loss efforts a jump-start. Would like to hear people's opinions of these products and if they worked for you. Also, any brands in particular you might recommend. Thanks!

For a good source for Protein Powders (which are usually low carb too) checkout the website for folks considering bariatric surgery "" STAY AWAY from Slim-Fast as it is loaded with Sugar!

I have been using the Jillian Brand from the "Biggest Losers" and so far I like the flavor of hers the best. The vanilla cream is yummy and low carb.

I'm not sure how effective they are for weight-loss, but I do drink them every once and a while with a snack. I started out with Ensure (40g Carbs, 9g Protein), then moved to Special K (29g Carbs, 10g Protein) but now I drink Atkins Advantage (5g carbs, 15g Protein). I kept switching because of the grams of carbs and protein but they're all pretty tasty.

I love these as well, and I can pop one in my purse in case I'm not able to eat when I need to. I don't drink them all the time though.

I agree with that. I only use them as an emergency replacement. I found too many calories in them to use as a weight loss aid.

I use Atkins and EAS low carb protein shakes. Lately been using the EAS powder shake mix. It’s cheaper than the already mixed ones. I found that drinking a low carb protein drink when I first get up helps with controlling my blood sugar in the morning. Then a couple of hours later I a small snack of sunflower seeds and or a hard boiled egg. Works for me. I will also use a low carb protein drink it I find myself not able to eat on time. I will drink a low carb protein shake and I find it helps keep my blood sugar under control until I can get around to eating later.

Hello Tender you have asked a question that is very close to my heart. Glucerna is made by Abbott Labatories and it is designed for diabetics as a meal replacement. I went on it after my hernia surgery because I could not eat my three meals a day. I did so well on it that my doctor said it is fine to continue drinking one Glucerna shake a day, he also said it has everything that I need in it. If you should try Glucerna make sure you shake it a lot before drinking or it tastes like liquid vitamins.
Abbott Labatories also makes Ensure, the Freestyle testing meters and the nutritional supplements for feeding tubes that are prescribed by MD Anderson cancer treatment center. They really seem to understand nutritional needs.
