Hi everyone,
I am a 22 year old type 1 diabetic who was just diagnosed last year. My recent a1c was 5.3 so I am pretty well controlled, however I was curious what everyone thinks an ideal blood sugar is to have before bedtime- when I say bedtime I usually mean around 1am because I am a student and stay up late typically finishing homework.

Thanks for any advice,

Hi Brittney, I am 25 and T1D as well. It will depend on how recently you ate- if you ate 2 hours ago it would be around 140-170 probably. If you have not eaten in a while then you will want to be at your target range- I prefer 90-110 but usually sit comfortably at 120. In the morning you should be at your target still— if not then you should keep track of your morning numbers and talk to your doctor about adjusting your regimen to fix the trend.

Best of luck to you,

That sounds just about right. Sometimes if I'm around 110 before I go to sleep I get a little paranoid that I will drop too low before I wake up so I usually prefer to be about 130. Thanks so much for the response : )

its not so much what it is before bedtime, but what it is when you wake up in the morning. but ideal for either time would be between 80 and 110 i think. great job on your a1c.
