I am totally new to diabetes type 2. My doc's nurse called about some test results and told me my fasting blood sugar was 300! But i have yet to hear anything else from them. He is an internist, What kind of doc should I look for… for diabetes? Is there a good book you could recommend? I have no idea what to do…watch my carbs? It may take my a while to get good at this. I have other health issues…fibromyalgia and sarcoidosis and am mostly home-bound.

Welcome to DC. Besides dietcherry's good sugestions utiizing this community will be a huge help. In the 2 years that have been a PWD (person with diabetes) this site has helped me as much as my local medical professionas. Depending what is contributing to your high BG levels watching carbs might be the best bet. It could be possible that pain or pain medicine could be causing some of the elevated numbers. There are medications that affect blood glucose.

An Endocrinologist specializes in disorders of the endocrine glands and hormones, including diabetes.
Check your local library for books on diabetes. Think Like a Pancreas is recommended reading.
You probably will also want to see a Registered Dietician who will make you a meal plan based on your individual caloric needs.
Welcome again to DC and ask all the questions you like as we are all eager to help you navigate your new way of life! ;)
