When diagnosed my fasting blood sugar was 366 and A1C was 14.1. I started to drink lots of water and started to eat lots of low carb vegetables. By testing I found higher carb foods and most foods make with flour all spiked my blood sugar. At first I tried cutting back on high carb starchy foods and soon realized I would need to stop eating them. I also found that adding some chicken breast or fish with my low carb vegetables also kept my blood sugar from spiking too much. Eating 2-3 oz’s of beef and pork work good also. I sometimes will eat a hard boiled egg with my meals if I don’t have any left over meat in the refrigerator. By making the choices I did I was able to quit all meds and my blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol have been doing fine now for almost 3 years now. It only took about 4-6 weeks for my blood sugar to approach normal numbers and my second A1C was 5.9 four months later.

For snacks I eat sunflower seeds, peanuts, almonds or walnuts.

Good luck
