It helps stabilize your BG numbers so that the highs aren't so high and the low's aren't so low.

I use vinegar and water in the morning. I also use vinegar on salads and some green vegetables and cucumbers. I find it very helpful. It can be any type of vinegar. I frequently use the milder flavored Champayne vinegar.

Carol: Do you use it as a drink or as ingredients with your breakfast? If as a drink, isn't it rather better?

Caroltoo 2011-12-26 23:14:43 -0600 Report

I sometimes drink about 1 teaspoon of the champayne vinegar in 1/2 glass of water, particularly at times when I think I will be having a BG high. Add a little sugar substitute, if it is too tart. I've gotten used to it, so I don't.

No, breakfast is usually an omelette with several varietes of greens included and a helping of berries on the side. My other favorite is a small piece of steak with an egg and fruit.

I think I could learn to love vinegar!!! Really looking for ways to stabilize my levels. I usually wake up with highs so if I drink it at night it will help while I sleep?? How many times a day can you drink it? Thanks!!

I've never heard a limit, but I do try to find ways to use it in food. When you drink it, be sure to rinse your moth well afterwards so it won't affect your tooth enamel.

Ok cool. I didn't know if you could intake too much lol. Would I still take the same amount of insulin for my meals when I do this?

Caroltoo 2011-12-28 10:38:05 -0600 Report

I don't use insulin, so I don't think I'm the best person to respond to that. If your readings are still in the 300s, I would think so, but if they started to be below 80 or so, I'd have a talk with my doctor about reducing the insulin.

I frequently eat a piece of string cheese or a few deli thin slices of fresh turkey or chicken before bed. Seems to stabilize me. If you go too low during the night, you may find your body overcompensates and you get a higher morning reading.

That's definitely a problem I found… I adjusted my long term insulin to help with that an stopped taking short term at night at all.. But last night I ate pizza… I shouldn't have but I did.. Pizza never does any good for my BG… I'm so bad with portion sizes too… :( And ahhh that sounds so good!!
