I know diabetics are not supposed to drink alcohol , but if we choose some what's the best choice?? Wine , beer, rum with diet help a sister out!

I have heard moderation is the key. New Year's Eve is coming and alcohol will be involved to some extent. I've heard tequila on the rocks, sipped, is okay. Tequila, and other alcohols may cause your blood sugar to drop, so keep an eye on it. I drink Bud Light Lime when I want a beer, it has 9 carbs so can't over do, but it's a lot lower than a lot of others. Bud Select 55 I think has only 3 carbs. I'm type 2 and on oral meds and haven't had any problems whenever I drink, unless I drink margaritas or something with sweetened mixers. I recently found a Lite margarata mix they sell in the stores, it has no real fruit juice and no alcohol, and when I mix with tequila I don't get much of a BS spike, and it still tastes good! But everyone is different, you just have to keep an eye on your numbers and see how it affects you. My doc says a glass of wine or a light beer with dinner is good to do, too.

What about grape juice, root beer, gatorade with diet?…No? Just kidding. I'm recently sober so can't help you there. I drink water, milk, tea, diet soda (occaissionally), coffee (infrequently), and juice that has only 12g of carbs. It's 10g of sugar though, so I don't drink that too often either.

Oddly, I quit drinking several years before I was diagnosed - I'm sorry, not much help there, huh?
