Why is type 1 diabetes on the rise?

Is it really? From what I understand a large number of people were being diagnosed as type 2 when they were type 1 (it still happens), general diagnosing criteria has changed over the years making the diabetic numbers lower, and detection has increased. Who knows.

Being fairly new to the diabetes scene,I am hearing that it is on the rise and I was just wondering why? Are we doing somthing different than we have in the past. I can see t2 beacuse of food choices and not enough exercise, but what about t1? Thank you..
