I have just had someone post something on my profile page and it is a scam. It has been on the news here off and on for awhile.

They claim to have all this money but can not access it and want your help. They ask you for money and say they will share a big chunk of the money if you help. DO NOT DO IT! You will never see any monies and yours will be gone.

I have reported this to the powers that be, but I want to make sure you all know that this is a scam. Be Careful Please! Don't be taken in by this.

If it is too good to be true, then it is!

We need to find a way to intercept these telephone calls and e-mails before they get to us. This has been going on for too long. I wonder why Tech-Gurus cannot do something about this. Many elderly folks fall victims to these scammers. Please be safe.

hello my fellow DC peeps!! Have been gone for a few days and just getting caught back up. I see that people have been posting about other scams out there. First, these people make me sick, get a life and a job and leave everyone else alone! What trash! Secondly, Thank you all for putting these out there. The only way we are going to stop these people from getting anyone is to talk about it and spread the word! Hopefully we can put a dent in the nasty little ring. I know we cannot stop them all, but if we even just foil there plans and stop a couple of people, I'm good with that!!

God Bless!
Wishing you all a Blessed Holiday!
Love, Mickey

Thanks, Mickey, for the concern you show for all of us. Glad this was resolved quickly and, hopefully, without any harm to anyone here.

I have been getting this type of email and others for about 4-5 years;from UK,NIgeria,Canada, Germany and even from NYState "fire fighters supervisors".

I even got a letter from an alleged FBI agent!

The latter called twice this year and last year too. It is not any state or local government unit.

To anyone just coming to read this: The powers that be have removed this person from the site, and it looks like any of the postings they may have put up. The one on my profile page is gone! Thank goodness. Please, Please, Please just be aware of these people. If anyone ever contacts you via, email, phone or what have you, if they are asking for your bank info and or money, tell them NO!!!
God Bless,

I have had folks friend me so they could try to sell me something via the DC email. Boy did they do that to the WRONG fella.

Since there is no "red flag" to report a person who does that on your email, I just copied and pasted the whole email to an email to John Crowley and sent it to him. It was taken down soon and that person deleted from the site.

Yes this has been around for a long time, I am very surprised that they could get on this site, but I should not be, these guys are pros. I also get this on my cell as a text message with pictures of crying children, and asking for help to get the monies for them ,can you believe it?

Thank you for the heads up, also be very careful with your e-mails, I have been hacked twice and changed my password. I had a lot of problems for awhile, my provider said to send copies of the things ,especially porn like I had) and they would trace it. Have not found anything as of this date.

Yea, I get at least 2 emails a day with about the same thing, some are a little different but they are all scams I think, I don't have enough money to throw away to try any of them. Sometimes you can hit the spam button and it will block that sender from sending you anything else.

Mickey/CCHT 2011-12-14 00:47:25 -0600 Report

Ya, couldn't just delete it, they were posting directly onto mine and others profile pages! But it is all good now. They were taken off!

Simply hit the delete button, they are all gone! Grandpa Bill

Mickey/CCHT 2011-12-13 19:32:40 -0600 Report

Ya, they were crafty. They did not post this as a discussion. They were going to peoples profile pages and posting this.

cavie2 2011-12-13 16:49:10 -0600 Report

I have profiles on imesh and bearshare and get them all the time. All they want is your bank details, name, address, etc then they can clean you out. I also get emails sent all the time several daily and have marke them spam so they go into my spam folder and I just delete everything in there and never open them and read them some are designed to infect your computer the minute you open them. They are the biggest con going. I get them from Spain and Africa telling me I have won several million $'s in a draw in category 3 and to give them my details and it will be sent to me by special post. Duh they must think we are all stupid.

Mickey/CCHT 2011-12-13 18:40:37 -0600 Report

They are just looking for that one soft hearted person who may be gulliable and take advantage of them. It just makes me sick! It was just on the news again some little old lady got taken in. It's terrible!

jayabee52 2011-12-13 18:53:14 -0600 Report

actually those bank transfer scams work on folks who are needy or greedy.
And yes it IS terrible!

Mickey/CCHT 2011-12-13 18:58:51 -0600 Report

Just glad they are gone and our site is safe once again!! LOL How dare they try anything here! Don't they know we are warriors!!

jayabee52 2011-12-13 19:01:16 -0600 Report

me too. I think a lot of folks have no idea that we are warriors. Especially those scammers and those sales person types Well, SURPRISE! We are.

Mickey/CCHT 2011-12-13 19:10:21 -0600 Report

That's right!! In their face!! I don't think they believed me when I said I was reporting them! Or spent over an hour trying to get the word out! Guess they didn't know that insomnia would play against them!!! I will use whatever weapon is available!! That is how we warriors roll!!!

jayabee52 2011-12-16 14:25:31 -0600 Report

you can correct that Mickey! just hit your edit link on that reply and when the edit function comes up simply uncheck post annon the box and it is undone, and you're not "hiding" anymore!

jayabee52 2011-12-13 17:03:47 -0600 Report

well some folks are that stupid.

All it takes is one or two who take the bait with each time they send out that email and it is worth it for the scammer.

If it were not successful that scam probably would not continue very long. They'd try a new approach.

Mickey/CCHT 2011-12-13 18:42:14 -0600 Report

People just want to believe what people tell them. There are some very gulliable people out there. I'm pretty gulliable, wanting to take people at face value and believe what they say, but I'm not quite that gulliable!!

jayabee52 2011-12-13 18:58:38 -0600 Report

I got taken in a little bit back in 1977 when newly married to my first wife. (no — not by her, LoL!) But my MIL helped me to see through the scam. I have been on my guard ever since.

Yeah I DO want to believe what ppl say but often I ask them to verify what they say somehow. If they can't verify, then I will pass on the "opportunity".

jayabee52 2011-12-13 16:34:53 -0600 Report

I haven't seen a notice for a wall message since before DC started having problems. So I don't know whether I had gotten that scam or not. But thanks for the heads up!

SCLWKR 2011-12-13 12:46:17 -0600 Report

This scam has been going around on the internet for years. Periodically I get an email with this proposal. I guess some people fall for it otherwise it wouldn't stay out there. Nigeria is a hot bed for these kinds of scams.

Mickey/CCHT 2011-12-13 18:44:14 -0600 Report

They are from all over and they change the scam slightly, but it's all the same. It keeps showing up on the news out here, because they always end up getting someone. Usually an elderly person that can't afford it! Makes me sick!! I was totally appalled that they had the nerve to do that here!! Glad I had insomnia and was up!!

GabbyPA 2011-12-13 08:11:24 -0600 Report

If any of you find that there are things like this going on. Please let us know and if you can, send us a link to their profile. That way we have found what you found because there are a lot of them out there to pick from. Specially during the holidays, people get bored and just pump the site with gibberish.

dietcherry 2011-12-13 09:49:24 -0600 Report

Morning Gabby! Looks like he/she hit up a lot of our brand new members; I dont like the message that may send about our site. Will those posts be deleted from the newbies profiles??

Mickey/CCHT 2011-12-13 08:33:12 -0600 Report

This is not your normal kids just being bored. This has been all over the news out here, that's how I knew what was up. I posted this discussion and then flagged myself!! so I could send the powers that be a note on what is going on. I did not know how to contact the right person besides doing that. I don't know how to post a link, but the name was…milantos…that is who was sending these out. I went to their profile and told them I knew what they were up too and that I had reported them. Hopefully this will be the end of it.

GabbyPA 2011-12-13 08:59:11 -0600 Report

I found him. He was on my profile too. He has been reported from all angles so I am sure it will be taken care of as soon as they can. To do a link, you go to their profile page and then in the http box at the top of the screen you can click on the page address and "copy". Then you can paste it and send us the links directly.

I used to get these kinds of things in my email. I had one where I responded to the lady telling her that it was a big scam. She actually wrote me back and was aghast that I would accuse her of such things. It was quite funny.

Mickey/CCHT 2011-12-13 09:02:46 -0600 Report

Ya, this person tried that too with me. Like I'm stupid or something!!
Thanks for the info on doing the link. Still learning!

GabbyPA 2011-12-13 09:05:31 -0600 Report

This type of scam has been around for years. They tend to be generated out of countries in Africa and Asia. I used to get them with regularity, but they seemed to have slowed. So now I guess they are trying a different approach.

Thanks for helping everyone here. That is what we need and really appreciate!!

Young1s 2011-12-13 07:36:25 -0600 Report

Thanks Mickey. I didn't find it on my profile this morning so I guess the problem has been taken care of. But just in case it's because they haven't gotten to me yet, can I please have the name of the culprit?
