Hi to you too. Welcome to DC. I hope you find all that you are looking for in order to aid in your fight against this burden we all must now bare. You're off to a great start by starting this discussion. Now, do it again, and again, and again… As I am still learning, the only way to get an answer is to ask a question. The members of our community are truly special and you will quickly see just how infectious and addictive the spirit of this place is. Have fun exploring the site and again welcome to the family.

Greetings, Welcome and Happy Holidays!!!

You will find some phenomenal people here from around the globe who, like every family, share the ups and downs of life and diabetes. Take a look around the discussions, not only the current/active ones but the discussions page offers a "search" by keyword to find things that interest you. Notice also to the left that there are menus of other areas on the site which include recipes, videos, product reviews, etc. There's a lot of information here and we are looking forward to sharing our experiences with you… and looking forward to you sharing your experiences with us.

Our group is made up of type one and two diabetics and family of diabetics. We welcome the diversity from each and every person who joins us. It doesn't matter where you've come from only that you have a firm grasp on where you're going. Many of us start off in a state of denial about the condition and perhaps believe it will just go away or that they'll find a cure. It doesn't look like that's going to happen so it's up to each us to try to manage/control through diet, exercise and/or medication.

When you find an idea that sounds good to you, make sure to get the advice and opinions of your medical team. Sometimes even those with good intentions may fall short of having all of the facts. I've learned that what works for me won't work for others … and the other way around. There are a number of myths about diabetes out there. Make SURE you know the myths and realities.

Diabetes control is a journey and not an overnight thing. It will take time to know your body. Some people can eat certain things while others cannot. Some people have physical limitations that make certain exercise possible and others impossible. None of us can prescribe the right medications for your needs which is why a close relationship with your doctor is a "must." But we are here for the emotional support, facts, experiences, friendships and soooo much more.

I hope to hear more from and about you. If you click on the photo of the crazy guy to the left, you'll find a "friend request" button… please feel free to add me to your friend list but don't just leave me there. Drop a line anytime with questions, comments, lessons, or anything on your mind. I may not have all of the answers for you but I have a genuine concern for you and maybe we can find those answers together.

So glad you've joined us.

Beautifully said. That should be in every new members Inbox, right after John's greeting.

I agree! I would have liked to have had this the first time I signed up here! Not that it is hard to navigate here, but to have had that would have been very informative! I wonder if there is a way we could suggest it?

Aw, shucks! :) … It is the support and encouragement from those like you, pcyoung38, that solidifies exactly what I wrote above about the wonderful people here. I am referring to people like YOU.

Welcome to DC, thanhngoc - we have a lot of great folks here that can help with many many parts of living with diabetes, and we can also 'listen' when you just need a safe place to unload :) I've learned a lot since joining (originally because my hubby was diabetic then found out shortly after that I am too) and there are some really great recipes here as well. Hope you find this site as great as I have, come back often and share what you are going through with us. No matter what I feel or experience there is someone else here that has been there as well (usually more than 1) Remember if there is a name for it then there are others who have it as well :) so though we may feel it at times, none of us are really unique nor are we alone :)
