If it is truly the case that the person produces no insulin and they cannot take any type of insulin at all then that person would die. It could be as quick as a day, it could be a little longer but without insulin the person would go into diabetic ketoacidosis and die very rapidly. In a case like that there would be no time for a transplant and depending on the type of diabetes and general health that may not even be an option anyway.

If it came down to it and the person is refusing to take animal insulin for personal reasons then it is probable that the healthcare organization treating the patient would get a court order to declare the patient mentally incompetent, since it would effectively be assisted suicide for them and violate multiple laws and regulations they have to abide by, and force the patient to take the insulin.

Thank You kd. You happen to be the only 1 who happens to have any form of intellect concerning this topic. A) I doubt that I would even go through a transplant (if that was 1 of the options or if it was even possible.) B) I know that with my beliefs that any form/type of insulin from animals is definitely out of the question.(Am a complete vegan) So from the looks of it, the last paragraph of your post might be my only option. Thank you kd. It's really nice to talk to someone who's intelligent.

I don't know if they could do that really especially if it was a part of that person's deeply held religious convictions.

I know they can do something like that to children (the case a couple years ago of the JW child being forced by the courts to have a blood transfusion comes to mind) but with otherwise competent adults it becomes a LOT trickier, because freedom of religion is involved (1st amendment).

My only guess would be in that case of synthetic insulin rejection might be the use of insulin from pork or from beef. But that would only be a wild guess.

Thought of that J~A~B~ but can't do it. Since I'm a firm believer of not consuming any type of meat products. Any which way shape or form. And yes, that even includes Jell-O. (S/F of coarse!! :>)

Anna: that would be a really good question to ask your doctor. We just aren't specialists in physiology. Carol

I know that carol2. It's just a topic of conversation. And I remember typing if any D/C members had any thoughts, suggestions, or ideas. So that's all that this is was a topic of conversation. Sorry to say this, if you didn't like it, then you shouldn't have put your 2 cents in.

Wow, that was harsh

May of been harsh, but there are some people who don't know a conversation when they see one.

Sounds more like, if you don't want to hear people's opinions, you shouldn't have posted this. When you post something, that is opening a door to let people make comments or suggestions, whether you like them or not. There is no need to be mean about not liking what someone has to say.

You ever heard of freedom of speech? By the way, how old are you? Because that sounded like it came from a 2yr old.
I will stand up to bullies when I feel like it. Grow UP.

Yeah I've heard of freedom of speech. But it sounds like to me, that your speech comes from somebody's ass. Like your own. Get your head out of it, and start speaking like an adult. If you know how to. I've grown up. Now why don't you give it a try? You sure in the hell sound like an immature little kid. That kid in that photo is more mature than you'll ever be!!

That sounds terrible—-I have no idea, and have never heard of that happening, but I see off and on on this site where it does happen. I know one thing's for sure—-I feel darned sorry for that person—that is a serious serious situation…sincerely, ANNE
