I have lost my medical ID bracelet. All I can figure is the chain broke and it fell of my wrist. It was a gift to me and now my Mother is passed away, so I don't know where to purchase another one. Can any of you help me? Also, how important is it to wear one? That last question is not so much for me but the new diabetics that have joined our group. I am curious to your thoughts about it though. But please someone help me find a new bracelet…Valentine Lady

I have a Pandora bracelet and I bought a Diabetes charm at Kay Jewelers. You can order them from a pharmacy or there's plenty of websites!

I agree with James if you have multiple health issues going on the USB bracelet is the way to go. I can not tell you how many times we had to bring my grandma's medication list to the hospital. Your medication list, family members, friends, doctors, Diabetes and anything else can all be listed there. You can even indicate to check on a pet at home. All that on a bracelet is real bang for your buck. Measure as James suggested and be comfortable. They are waterproof in case you forget and get them wet. Happy shopping! I go for black as I can wear it with everything. It has a red medical emblem on it and is not really noticeable (to me) LOL

What an interesting side of James. Thank you for sharing. Maybe we don't thank you often enough for all the great information you share with all of.

No I am not encouraging or hinting for more thank yous. I was raised in the midwest amongst some stern Germanic folk. (I grew up near the village of "New Bavaria" OH). And then my first wife (now ex ) didn't have anything nice to say for the last 10 years or so of our marriage.

Seriously, James, I'm sorry to hear that. Marriages should be a source of joy and support. I'm glad you got joy and support in your second one.

I believe it IS important! I recommend the USB / Flshdrive bracelet because you can get a LOT of information on those 2 GBs of space contained in it

Here is the website for the USB / Flashdrive bracelet ~ http://medicalhistorybracelet.com/

Yes they have them at most Walgreens I have checked, however I have found that the size and color selection at Walgreens are rather limited. I had to order from the website as none of the Walgreens at which I checked in Las Vegas had them in a large enough size to fit my wrist.

Please make sure to measure your wrist with a dress-maker's tape measure and then add 1/4 to 1/2 inch so it is not too tight.

Another option (which I am considering myself) is a medic alert tattoo. A friend of mine is an EMT and I asked his input on just how helpful it would but— he highly recommended it- especially if you don't have a bracelet.

where would the tattoo be?

door331
door331 2011-11-28 22:15:10 -0600 Report

The usual location would be on either the left or right forearm near the wrist. There is honestly no rules or anything of that nature— this is just the most common spot since EMTs check the wrist for pulse in emergency situations. The neck may be another alternative location.

that would be a different approach; but i have multiple issues so i'd better stick with the bracelet/necklace form.

Hey, i'm a tattoo kind-of girl. So it sounds interesting. I'm not into wearing jewlery much, so this would not bother me. What would it have to look like? Would you just have the work diabetic tattooed on your wrist? Huh, something to think about…

There are a few images you can look up on the web for diabetic alert tattoos. Usually they incorporate either the Staff of Asclepius or Caduceus symbols and then some lettering designating Type1 or Type2 diabetes.

I recommend the bracelet with the flash drive. Walgreen's sells them for $19.99 This is the link for the black one but they do come in colors, pink, blue and red too. You can put all your medical history, meds you take contact numbers etc… on it. It says online only but my walgreen's and probably others have them near the pharmacy.

Thank you for posting the website because I went to Walgreens today to see if they sold them and the pharmacist looked at me like I was speaking jibberish.

Valentine a medic alert bracelet or necklace can save your life. If you are anywhere and have a diabetic episode where you are not able to respond it will tell the emergency crews that you are diabetic and your sugar will be monitored along with your medical condition. It can alert the medical response team that the diabetes may have caused the problem.
You can get them where ever there is a pharmacy or google medic alerts.

my cell phone has space for me to put medical conditions etc. but a bracelet/necklace is also a good idea. i believe most emt's look for the "ice" info if you hand them your phone.

Watson it is always a good idea to keep your information with you. In case of an accident a cell phone can become damaged and not work or the battery could be down. If you are unconsciencous you will not be able to hand that phone to anyone. I was a Firefighter First Responder and it was drilled into us to check for the medical allert bracelet or necklace.
I cannot emphasize enough how important one of these items could be to you or a loved one.

I put my info in my phone too but had to put it in the notes section. My phone is ridiculously old. So I let my family know where to look for it in case of an emergency. But I really need to et the bracelet on the off chance that something happens while I am alone.
