As Carol is saying, it's kit. Not like a meter that you use over and over again. It only has a test for a single use. You can also get them from Reli-On and you mail in your test and they send you back the results. That is how I did mine before I had a doctor.

My local WalMart and Longs sell Bayer's A1C kit. It provides 2 tests, done in the home, for immediate results. You have to record them as there is no printout. It is non-refillable, you buy another box after the two tests. Cost ranges from $23-30 depending on the store: so individual test cost is $11/50 to $15.00/test.

To take the A1c home test you need only one strip. The other is back up in case you do not get enough blood on the first one. Then you send your test to a lab and they will email you or mail you the results. This is how I did my first test because I did not have a doctor at the time and I wanted to know.

Unless you have a different kind of kit than I had, you use it only once and send it off.

Now if you are talking about your meter that tests your daily levels, that is a different animal and usually they come with a starter pack of 10 strips. You will have to purchase additional strips for that. Depending on the meter, you can get your strips from your pharmacy or over the counter.

Good morning, where were you able to find an A1c kit at? My doctor makes me go for blood work every 2 -3 months and it would be nice to know what it is before I actually go.
