Sorry I have not been on as much as I had been. I have had alot of Family problems to take care of in the last month to last me for the next 5 years. LOL
I have got my BG's for this time I have missed and they are not all good. From the 16th on they have been high again. And bouncing all around. I hope that in the next 2 weeks I can get back to a normal routine.
We didn't have the Reg. Thanksgiving Dinner this year no kids at home that day so I fixed us Spaghetti and sweet Hawaiian dinner rolls for supper. We also had Taco Salad that was from supper the day before.
Today I had a very quiet day and tomorrow will be another one I hope.
On Mon. I will get boxes to finish the packing for my family and then Gerry will carry them to the truck to put into storage. I hope we finish up on Tues. early so that I can get back to my quilting. It is the only pleasure I have now a days. I have not got to visit with any of my Grandchildren in over 2 weeks to say we spent time together.When I think of them I start crying all over again. I hope this also passes.

Well I'll close for now and get back on track this next week. See yas tomorrow nite I hope. I'll be here about 8 pm.

Gabby;
Where do you find what the calories you burn are from the exercises you do and how can you get the true count at the end of the day. I'm only getting from walking and I know that sewing, cooking, cleaning and laundry all burn caloories but I don't know how much they do burn, can you help me find a web site to get this information.
Thankyou Your Friend Always;
Edie

I use www.livestrong.com for logging my food, getting my PCF ratio, and my calorie burning for what I do. My ped has been an on and off thing, so I am back to minutes for now. It calculates based on your weight and what you do. I burn more because I weigh more than you do. But it gives 100's of activities that you can just punch in your time, and it does the rest.

Thankyou for the info Gabby. I will use it. I have not been feeling very well lately and with all the stress I have had thrown at me in the last 3 weeks I'm sorry I haven't been on here as much as I was. I have to finish packing out the Trailer for Ann and the kids. Her ex and his now wife have been trying to steel the kids again and now she is finally listening to me. She has packed the car and left with the babies. I know they are safe I talked to her yesterday and to a very close old Friend of mine that I grew up with and her and the kids are now settleing in fine. I will put all of their belongings into storage and then take to them in a few months.

Gabby have you checked your meter lately it might be off. check with your meter control solution and call the manufactuor for it to see if something is wrong with it. I did and found out it needed to have the mositure dried out of mine. Had not dropped it or had blood in it was just mositure from being near the dishwasher while running. LOL now stays on the back of counter away from dishwasher or on kitchen table across the room.
Hope this helps you find out what might be wrong.

the humidity has gone thru the roof these past few days. Our cold front is long gone and summer revisited. We had a day of 89 degrees! sweat, drip, wipe....LOL. Perhaps that is it. I also started chaning my lancet only once a week, so maybe that is it too. It sucks when you run out of supplies and try to economize. I am getting some free ones soon, so I will go back to chaning every day and see if that helps.

Yeah, I have a hate hate relationship with cereal. It hates me and I hate it LOL!! Like today, I had a salad for breakfast. I just can't eat a traditional breakfast, and I didn't feel like cooking veggies this morning. I posted an article on egss, and though they are okay to eat...we can't eat them every day. So I move to veggies...they are my best friends.

Ok all I'm back…been a really difficult couple of days. My father-in-law passed away Friday night. He lived with us, and the hard part is that my hubby was the one to find him.

With that being said, my numbers have been really low for me the last couple of days, mainly because I know I'm not eating…I have to physically force food down myself…then spend the next 30 minutes trying to keep it there.

Also haven't been walking my usual 2 miles the last couple of days, but will resume again tomorrow…

Just take one dayat a time and it gets easier. My husband called and let me know they finally got his mom's marker on her grave last Friday. Was glad to hear it finally made it there one month after being paid off. will let the rest of family know as soon as he can he says.
Vicki just eat when you feel you can otherwise just drink fluids to keep your self hydrated atleast if it makes you sick to eat. That is how I made it last year from March 18 thru June 9 after 3 deaths and emptying a 4 story house for my best Friends family after she died out in Utah her house was in Peru, Indiana.
I went to my Sister Sue's Eye Surgery with her today and she is sleeping at this time and so is her husband while watching tv LOL I got back to her home town from Mountgomery with out getting lost. LOL Had a back seat Driver by the name of Toni telling me how to get back there. Both Sisters worked lastnite so Toni slept while I was inside with Sue and then I drove back.

I'm sure you know, everyone reacts differently to loss. When my Mom passed away, my daughter showed her emotions outward and was so upset that my son did not. I explained to her (and reminded myself) that just because its not shown outwardly, does not mean he isnt sad or affected by the loss. My brother was also very quiet..and did not show much emotion. It was a great lesson in seeing that we all responded in different ways..and that was ok.

Sounds like you are there for your husband, and allowing him to deal with his loss in his own way. What a gift

What are your suggestions on how to stay away from chocolate until I can be better disciplined on portion control and better management of my sugar intake?

Hey all, I sent tinafrosty here to get your help and support as I know you will help her out like you've always helped me… :) Thank you for taking her under your wing so to speak…LOL

And Gabby, Don't make me drive all that way to Florida to give you that "kick in the butt" to get you back on track. I've got enough to deal with myself to take the time to do it, but you know I will if I have to…:) Yes, I'm still tracking how all of you are doing…hee hee

Hi all

I just discovered this board. I am in such need of this structure and accountability. I've shared with John how I am not doing what I need to do to manage my blood sugars. I also dont like giving a "bad" report. Must be the accountant in me! Hate to give bad news!

YOu guys are so honest and supportive of each other. I'd like to join in as well. The tough part for me (and I'm sure others) is that I "know" in my head what I "should" be doing, yet I resist doing what is good for me! What's up with that? So…am ready to jump in, of course…starting Monday! :)

Hi Tinafrosty,
First of all while you are learning to control portion size, don't buy it, don't have it in the house or at work. That way if you want chocolate you need to make a conscious effort to buy it. That's what I did, wouldn't allow it in the house at first, now I can keep it around and just have a piece of dark chocolate from time to time. You'll get there

Gabby
GabbyPA 2008-11-09 22:24:12 -0600 Report

Yep, I use Lindt dark chocolate 85% Cocoa. It takes a little getting used to, but have the bar is a serving and it is only 8g of carbs...it is not sweet like milk chocolate, but I find 1/4 serving usually does great for me.

caspersmama
caspersmama 2008-11-10 11:12:39 -0600 Report

Actually I did not give up chocolate. I switched to dark chocolate. I allow myself a couple of squares at times. But the more control I got the less I had the craving for it. So I go days with out it now. Plus the sugar free chocolate puddings from Jello are excellent and very tasty.

She has been in poor health also. Worst than Me I beleive as she has to have someone to drive her everywhere now and can't see to do her paperwork at work for her charting. So her and Our sister Toni work as a team and toni does all of the charting. Not good for Sue. She said that it is like a veil has been pulled over everything to her for awhile now. Didn't want me to worry about her with my medical problems I have been having. That is why she has not joined us here. Can't read the screen to do much of anything.

I found myself 2 new Quilting books while here in Alabama and a new Sue Henry book to read also then send to my Daughter in Alaska. I called Mary today and told her I got a new one and as soon as I read it and get home I will send up to her to add to the Collection. She is collecting Sue Henry Books and as I read them that I buy I sned to her. While visiting 2 years ago I read the ones she had at the time and decided to get all of them and read them. I had 5 gotten and read them when she came down for her Grandmas Funeral she took them back with her. I think there was five. I had them packed in a box to ship with some other things to her and she shipped them to herself along with my newer slow cooker it was to big for Bill and myself so we gave to her and kept his moms for us. LOL

I am enjoying my trip down here the weather is great and it is very beautiful in this area but I am still going to go back home and injoy it more than I have been as all I am going to be doing down here for the next week is cleaning to help my sisters as much as my health will let me.

First off, Edie you and Gabby are both big inspiration to myself. You two are truly very wonderful women.

Ok now on to me…I haven't been checking my sugars very much the last week or so, only because I don't have a Doctor's appt until the 11th of this month. It's a new doctor so I don't think he will prescribe anything for me until I see him. I am going to call in the am and find out. I only have about 10 strips left, and I want to save them for when I'm low and need to check.

I have on the other had been feeling wonderful the last week, and I am assuming my numbers are good. I have been checking randomly once a day and they have all been in the great range..no higher than 130 for me.

I did some baking the other day and used splenda in it, and it turned out quite well. First time I have used splenda to bake with.

I stepped on the scale yesterday as well..I only weight myself once a week on the same day at the same time. I have lost another 2 pounds this week!! That was the sound of me patting myself on the back. That brings my grand total now to about 47 lbs since the beginning of September.

Thanks for listening everyone, and I hope you all have a great day.

I have lots of healthy eating type of websites stored-up on my personal Yahoo page. I also have medical info stored on that page. If you or anyone else could point me towards a website offering "free" information on YOGA I would appreciate this to all ends.

To give everyone a little background… my top weight @ 6', was 267; slowly, but surely, I have been dropping weight. I am now down to 244lbs—still 6':)

I am so happy that my older clothes are fitting great. To add to all of that (as if that wasn't enough), I have not been taking my meds EVERY day, Twice a day (Metformin & Glimepiride) because my ranges have been good with out the meds—until I forget that I am diabetic.Even then my highest numbers were 167 & 153 after eating.

Don't worry, I am nobodies fool (not for long anyway:), I know that Type II Diabetes is much like being an alcoholic or addict: once a diabetic, always a diabetic.

This may just be a good period for me, so I am prepared to eat as if nothing has changed (Just in case it don't last).

I am very pleased. I am sooo used to eating better that when I don't I feel stupid, ya know. Besides, this whole healthy eating has benefited me (see weight loss)even though I still eat large portions.

My current goal is still killing me: I still smoke a pack & a 1/2 daily. I have had good spells where I only smoked 5 or 6 cigarettes per day, but for the most part, this is still a major problem for me. I won't give up on hope though.

Everybody Be Blessed!

Forever hopeful;
