I just got an extremely long e-mail about the above subject, so I will shorten it and try not to lose the meaning and intent. Instead of boxed Christmas gifts, the suggestion is to build up the businesses in your home town. Gift certificates to the barber shop, beauty salon, your LOCALLY owned and operated stores. Think of the people in your town trying to make ends meet and support their businesses. Forget the box and chain stores and restaurants. By supporting your local small business owners your will help to rebuild the American economy, instead of the Chineses economy.

I got the same email Jim & I think that it's an awesome idea and a good way to help American Business at christmas time. I am an artists and I create handmade ornaments every year for christmas. I have alot of people that get angels from me every year. Not only do I make ornaments but I also make an assortment of other items, paintings,Jewelry, ect.. It's a good idea to go to christmas craft shows and festivles where you can buy gifts from local artesians. Handmade gifts are very special to give and are usually made far better than most store bought items. It's a great way to boost your local economy. Let's Buy American For Christmas !!!

Because it is the right thing to do and the right time to do it. without the small businesses, america will decline faster and deeper into trouble.

Jim is just suggesting that we help our local economies to grow. Big chain stores do employ people, but the money we spend there doesn't fuel our local areas like a local mom and pop store do or a local business. It is a way to be part of the solution to making America strong again.

That was brilliant! I hope you don't mind but I copied it and pasted it to my facebook wall. My family live in Michigan in small farming communities. When I was home last fall for my Mom's funeral it was depressing how many vacant buildings we passed. Thank you for sharing this. You are always filled with great suggestions, uplifting and encouraging words of advice. You are a special blessing.

Okay, I will ask before Gabby does! My rock soup was a joke started when I was looking for a no carb, no calorie, high fiber food. Totally made up in my mind, or so I thought! Jim

Okay, I missed a lot of suggestions because I could not save the post and check the email. Some more: cleaning services, gym membership, driveway sealed, lawn care, car detailed, oil change pruning. Everytime you use someone local, you help your community. Jim
