How often do you really look at the nutrition label of an item that you are buying when grocery shopping?

There was a study done recently at the University of Minnesota to see how many people actually looked at nutrition labels. You can see details about the study here:

What is it that you are looking for when you do look at the nutrition label?

We read the Nutrition label on any thing new, and do a refresher on any product which has a packaging change. With several diet constraints we read the whole nutritional label and ingredient list watching for hidden things.

Before D if i read a label it was to c the fat content, if i did at all. Now it's all about the carbs, sugar, sodium and fiber. If the carbs are not too bad and it has a good fiber content and low sugar i'm happy. Doesn't happen too often though! But i did find a good bread that meets my requirements! So now i'm religious about reading labels. It drives my teenager crazy cuz it takes longer to get thru the store. Oh well! :)

If it is a product I have checked out the label before, I don't but if I pick up something new I usually look at the carbs on the label and the serving size. When I don't I usually get an unpleasant surprise.

Always! I pay particular attention to the carbs and the serving sizes. I feel that this is an essential step in properly managing our diabetes. It's amazing to find that many Low-fat, "diet" alternatives actually have higher carbs (like salad dressings).
