Hmmm… Let's see. How about these:
Diabetes…Not a choice, but a lifestyle.
I Put The Beat In Diabetes. (A nice thought to have anyways)
A vampire-like meter that reads "I Want To Test Your Blood".

Glad I could help. If you are into vampires then you must be as big of an Anne Rice fan as I am. If not, check some out. I'm sure you will like.

Never really got into Anne Rice. More into Laurell k. Hamilton, Yasmine Galenorn, and J.R.Ward to just name a few. Devon Monk writes a good series about magic and Patricia Briggs has a good series about a girl named Mercy who is a skinwalker! I just love the paranormal books. They are so much fun!!

I love to brain-storm:
Everyone knows someone like me … I am a Diabetic
Diabetes is more than sugar.
I’m not drunk … I have Diabetic Neuropathy
Don’t stress me … my blood-sugar is high enough already!
Diabetes is not fun … but I can be!
Ask me, I’ll tell you everything … about DIABETES.
You too can be in CONTROL !!! (Of your diabetes.)
I’m NOT a statistic … I’m a Diabetic
Do NOT define me by my Diabetes.
I am more than simply being a Diabetic.

These are terrific! I needed the one you posted -Don't stress me…my blood sugar is high enough already- yesterday! I had such a bad day at work, the worst in my 7 years of doing this, well maybe not the worst, but in the top 5!

Cafe Press has several designs available for diabetes and I have found their quality good and their prices very reasonable.

Personal how about using the Blue Circle like on the Pin..I know something funny would be nice but there is nothing funny about the entire thing and I read most of the replies and it is sad when we think that others might think of us as closet sugar eaters. For we are not. We are just unlucky and have bad genes from our parents. I do like the Blue Circle though you did ask for ideas and that is mine. God Bless!

Degibu 2011-11-17 08:11:50 -0600 Report

In truth, "bad genes from our parents" is not always true. ANYONE can get diabetes. No one in my family, EVER, in history, had it. I was diagnosed with Type II in January of this year. In truth, since being diagnosed, I eat MUCH healthier (obviously) than before. So, to me, it was a blessing in disguise. I feel healthier than I have in a long, long time. Since symptoms can be non-existent, except in retrospect, NOW I see how I actually should be feeling.

stormz 2011-11-17 12:13:50 -0600 Report

Sorry your right Degibu most of the time it is from bad genes but some people do get it for whatever reasons. I'm sorry you also got it too. When I make a mistake I admit to it you are right I am wrong. I do admit it openly and publicly. Thank you for correcting me. Glad your feeling better though. I always hate to hear when people are sick or down. God Bless!

All the shirts I order from them get people talking. All the shirts I have ordered are original and that is what I love about them. They make "JUST" about anything you want. I love my newest shirt I just received it yesterday. I found it funny because we were talking about it on here. Cute little chick shirt for a change of pace. Something I don't normally do for myself but we all do need to treat ourselves now and again. I do love that Idea of the blue circle and that was my original idea for the shirt. Anyone who wants to just check out what they offer can go to www.vistaprint.com from there go to shirts have fun I think right now they giving away free ones with only shipping which is pretty cheap if you want to check it out. God Bless!

I agree, we do need to do those little things for ourselves. With or without D we all have busy lives and i think people sometimes just don't stop and take a breath or do something nice for themselves. Good for you! God Bless, Mickey
P.S. Will go and check out that site. Thanks for the info!

Your welcome! By the way it only took me 50 years to learn that every once in awhile it is okay to treat ourselves. Glad I learned now before it was too late. Also glad that I passed it on to some really great people! Also now is the best time to give yourself a break..this is the time of the year for giving which means give yourself a break as well. So if your a mom it's okay to take a break and take a nice relaxing bubble bath or dad go out with the guys. We all need to do something that helps us unwind once in awhile it also helps us destress. Mickey enjoy shopping! God Bless!

I'd like to know the price of the shirt first before ordering. You're very generous to give 25% discount. Also I'm in my own category about how I got diabetes as far as I know. My diabetes has nothing to do with genes.

Sorry if there was any confusion, i was just looking to make for myself. It was just a personel thing. But if you wanted to order t-shirts, there is a link earlier in this discussion that pixsidust posted that has a lot of wonderful t-shirts and car decals and the such. It was posted on October 30 and is pretty easy to find.

We need to educate others. sugar free is good but diabetics are not all closet sugar eaters. Everthing for diabetic's breaks down into sugars! Milk. bread, fruits, etc. I am sadden when some one tells me or others your diabetic because you eat or ate to much sugar growing up.

Degibu
Degibu 2011-11-17 08:16:42 -0600 Report

Unfortunately there are a lot of uneducated people out there, along with a TON of undiagnosed diabetics. I just heard a report that as of 2011, there are over 350 MILLION worldwide, and those are just the ones that have been diagnosed. They expect the number to reach 575 MILLION in the next 15 - 20 years. True also is the fact that SO many people with diabetes don't have a clue what to eat and what not to. I work for a doctor and see them every day. I actually had a patient (also Type II) come in and hand me a gigantic bar of dark chocolate and tell me, "It's ok, you can eat this because it's dark chocolate". *sigh* Believe it or not, this is not the exception to the rule, it is normal and it saddens me every day.

I work in the health field also. If we are unsure of something to eat others are too! That is why we need to get more info. out there. Thanks for doing it with the Tee's and bracelets, etc. It is a start.

Vistaprint does a good job on printing t-shirts I have gotten a few from them and they did a great job. They come in white grey and black only though. They are all cotton. They do all sorts of printing that you want and designs. They don't take long as far as delivery and I can give you a code if they would let me share I'd be more than happy to for 25% off my next order, I'd give that to DC. If you all would want it.

HA I can do the order sure but uhm no one told me what to order so that would be a small problem but I sure do love helping out. I really don't mind giving the 25 % off discount. I'd do anything to us out. Just let me know when we have the final plans what to print I'm good to go on that and where to have them ship and all that. God Bless!

I made up a logo with a glittery grey ribbon and say Diabetics are Too Sweet.
I opened a Cafe Press store with products that have the saying on them. Take a look: http://www.cafepress.com/RaisetheFunds

I like your idea but I think the ribbon needs to be a solid BLUE, not a grey outline. We want to be noticed not blend in.

The gray ribbon is already for diabetes and is generally recognized. Blue is my favorite color but we can't change it

They want to have a national symbol for diabetes. It is a blue circle. Perhaps you can incoporate that symbol into your design.

Mickey/CCHT 2011-11-02 18:57:26 -0500 Report

On the link for the t-shirts that pixsidust provided they had one on there but did not know until after that they wanted to make that the symbol. I'm going to go back and order one. Thanks. did you c where u can go and "sign" a petition to try and get that as our official symbol?

Uncle Lew
Uncle Lew 2011-11-02 22:42:35 -0500 Report

Here in the 21st century the ribbon has become the symbol of support. The blue circle has a rich history but it is dated. A blue ribbon would put diabetes in the mainstream. In today’s society every message needs to be short and sweet. When a person sees a ribbon they will immediately know you are supporting a cause. And then, rather than having to spend time explaining the significance of the circle, we can better use the time to explain diabetes.

Gray, blah!, Circle, blah! Ribbon- Okay as long as it's not royal blue. I'm not creative, but I wish someone could come up with an original design.

Thought: use the infinity symbol in a blue. The challenge of D is never ending. The symbol's two sections could be representative of Type 1 and Type 2. The cross over point would represent the commonality of symptoms, the sides would be the much larger divergence of symptoms even within the types. Blue is nice and soothing; appropriate since stress is an issue for all of us.

I like the infinity sign the best. Good idea! Much better than a circle, ribbon. or a circle with the diagonal line through it!

Carol: Avon has a braclet in blue stones with that symbol attached to it. I'm buying it as soon as I see it again. I so like the way you used the infinity symbol to represent Types 1 & 2 Diabetes. What a wonderful idea..your so creative! Hugs, Peggy

D needs a ribbon-I agree wholeheartedly. At this point, we out-number almost every other condition/disease out there so it only makes sense we should have a ribbon too!!

Mickey/CCHT
Mickey/CCHT 2011-11-03 22:30:01 -0500 Report

That's true, but on the other hand if I was wearing a t-shirt with the blue circle, people are going to ask what it is for and then i can have a discussion with them. But i guess that would also be true about the ribbon. I would jusr like to see everyone come together on one symbol and spread the word.

dietcherry
dietcherry 2011-11-03 23:52:46 -0500 Report

I see your point too! Since D is a chronic condition maybe it shoud be characterized by another symbol and the circle works cuz both are never-ending!!

Mickey/CCHT
Mickey/CCHT 2011-11-04 17:30:42 -0500 Report

Good point! In any case whatever is picked it needs to be done and we need to get it out there! Like you said, with us outnumbering almost every other condition, we need to be putting the word out and getting people talking.
