I stopped the meds over 2½ years ago. Haven’t needed to take any since. A1C’s have all been 6 or less after getting a 14.1 when diagnosed. It can be done. There have been lots of people here who have done it also. Most follow a low carb diet and exercise some. I believe in testing before and about 1 hour after eating to see how the foods spiked my blood sugar. If I spike too much I reduce the carbs. Eating lots of low carb vegetables and drinking lots of water helps with controlling blood sugar. Also found by adding a little protein to my meals also helps with reducing blood sugar. Doesn’t have to be much but a little helps a lot.

I asked for time to change. my A1c was 6.8 the Dr gave me 3 months then we reevaluate my test results. I'm taking cinnamon and alpha lipoic acid and fish oil. I drink at least 2 bottled of diet green tea a day I eat 2 hand fulls of nuts a day. I only eat low carbs fish chicken and turkey with mostly green veggies !!! I don't even take my BP meds anymore !!! I prefer to be meds free if I can. I never thought I would have Diebeties at age 40. I guess it's all those years of not taking care of myself.

To me it appears that you are doing all the right things now. I too am trying some natural supplements to try to reduce the meds. I am allergic to cinnamon which I have read is great for lowering BG. Right now I am trying Bilberry gelcaps. I hope you can keep off the meds.
