A yr ago I was diag as a Type2 diabetic, since that time all A1c test have been in the 5's. (5.1 ect) I take Metformin a 500mg , and 2mg Glimperide. I had to cut my meds in half because it literally made me sick. My doc was not happy about this. Morning reading are in the normal range. I control what I eat but was never an unhealthy eater in the first place. I have no history in my family. I have not had a high reading since being diag. My doc still wants me to take my meds but I only take 1 round of dosge because if I take the 2nd round it causes me to drop. When is a person able to come off the meds? My friend the "pre-diabetic" has higher reading than me, takes more meds than me so I don't understand how she is pre=diabetic. can anyone explain?

I would get a second opinion. I agree with you——if your friend was diagnosed pre-diabetic, and her numbers are higher than yours, then why is she diagnosed pre-diabetic? I am not a doctor, but I am wondering if your current doctor should have even put you on any medications for your diabetes at all. It very well might be that you can control it through diet and exercise. On the other hand, if you are in the 5s WITH the Metformin, I might be wrong…without the Metformin, maybe you would be in the 7s…sincerely, ANNE

Yes I agree with you. Her numbers are higher and Doc put her on meds but claims she is pre-D. It made no sense to me but I'm just a year in.
