I just wanted to start a discussion that everyone could put some of the things that we laugh at when it comes to diabetes! Some of us don't do it enough!!!

When I was in the hospital for an extended period of time(5 months), my niece drew me a picture. I know her favorite color was pink. So she gives me the picture and their are 2 girls one with a pink bow and one with a purple bow. Just out of curiousity I asked her. Who are these girls. She looked at me and said,Of course I'm the one with the pink bow. I said am I the one with the purple bow and she said yes. I just kept looking at the picture and it looked weird to me. I said did you forget to draw my other leg?( I am an amputee) She said no, You didn't feel like wearing it that day. Needless to saywe were laughing the rest of the night. She was so proud of that picture. She said where do you want me to tape it up at..( GO figure ) From the mouth of babes…Debe

Debe that is awsome. It is amazing how honest kids can be. They remind us of the inocense we all once had.

Ok my new funny one is:

Tonight I took my 3 year old daughter out trick or treating. I made an off hand comment to my husband about how just looking at all that candy is making my BG levels go up. One of the women that was walking past us heard me. She stopped and asked me if I was diabetic. I said yes Ma'am I am. She started giving me a lecture about how I shouldnt even look at that candy and there is no way I should eat any of it. I asked her if she was diabetic, her response was no, but I've heard it's horrible…I just smiled at her and said thank you for your concern. When we got around the corner I couldn't help but start laughing. I think I'm going to start whispering to my husband instead. LOL

Geez!! What a goof. People who just don't know a thing think they know everything. Too funny...

My goofy thing is now that I eat chia seeds the family gets a kick out of seeing the "frog eggs" floating in my tea. I don't know if that is funny or gross, but we get a chuckle out of it.

I'm a texture eater too, and at first I thought they were going to be weird, but suprisingly they are really easy to drink, and if you don't want to do that, you can just sprinkle them in your food dry and they are like seasame seeds sort of.

As you all know I really like my doctor but once in awhile I have been sick or needed a special test that he knows I will not like, so to lighten up the mood of the test or results he will say" You won't put me on your Christmas list after this" and then I know it will not be good but that is his way or preparing me for the outcome. I really appreciate that.

My boyfriend and i make a fun game out of checking our blood sugars. We try to see who can beat each other by having the best count. It is fun and makes us laugh. I did have something funny that happened to me. I wear an insulin pump. I had went on a date with this guy and he thought i was recording what we were saying. He thought my pump was a recorder. I thought that was so funny.

Is there not anything that has happened to you or something that you did that can make you chuckle about having diabetes? I am the type of person that I have to find the humor in all things, or I would just shut down.

Good Luck

Hi Carol, I agree it is a curse…but I think we all need to laugh about at times or we will go crazy. I hate being diabetic but it is my lot in life, and what better way to bring down the stress of having it. Thanks Vicki. Lanore ;-)

My funny thing is the other night I had to take my shot before my hubby and I went to eat at a restaurant for our anniversary. I went ahead and took my shot in the car after we had parked. We went inside the restaurant and sat down to eat…next thing we know a police officer was walking over to our table. Apparently someone had called me in as doing drugs in the parking lot!!!!! I laughed so hard that diet coke came out my nose. I showed my presciptions and my insulin with the needles to the officer, he chuckeled and said have a nice day.

There are just things we have to laugh at. May not be that funny at the time, but wow thinking about it later, or telling a friend about it later can bring tears of laughter to our faces!!!
