I was dianoised with Diabetes in 2007 and nearly died as the result of it . I was placed on Lantus and Novalog insulin. I have controlled my diabetes since and have been on carb counting with great results however in the last few weeks I have experienced my sugar levels have been steady without me using any insulin. Has anyone else experienced this? I was recommended by my Doctor to think about the pump But I have reservation now because if by using the pump I will surely have low blood sugar. Does the pancreas regenerate?

HI…my name is Anne…I was diagnosed type 1 at age 26, did not take the prescription for insulin given to me because I had very little food in my refrigerator…I ended up "starving" out the sugars , overexercising, …that held it at bay…then, I forgot about it …at age 34 or 35 was diagnosed severe severe brittle type 2, then that internist changed his mind—-said I must eat more for him to officially diagnose me type 1—-again, being so poor, I did not—-tried me on Metformin , my pancreas rejected it—-I land in the E.R. blood sugar went from 63 to 701—-I was given insulin—-responded beautifully to it, the rest is kind of a LONG story—-and private information, so, please write me back——in some cases of type 1, we don't need that much insulin…I am just so dogged tired of feeling like I don't belong into any category——I am still looking for a new endo, as the excellent one I had—-his nurse—-she hated me, so, please write me back—-I have had insulin again about 4-5 times…it always works, but, there are so many limitations I have as far as money—-I work 2 jobs, I now get enough to eat everyday—-I see keytones after eating…my A1C took a long time to get UP again, as I almost DIED from the Metformin, not the insulin——-ANNE

Thanks, I have been taking the Metformin and I Have not rejected it My concerns are (1) I have for the last 3 months testied in the normal range between 85 and 125 the highest. (2)I have not taking any insulin at all. I feel great with no neggative side effects. I eat a well balanced diet and count my carbs. So are you telling me I may have a high BG soon? My A1C is 6.0

HI…this is Anne…hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving..I did. I was just reading through different letters on this site, and I just now got to thinking: It is possible the doctor gave you too much insulin for awhile, and this very well might have put you in what they call a "LOW STATE"—-where you actually get nondiabetic numbers for awhile with no insulin. It says in the title you are type 1, and in rare cases of type 1 ( I know a man that is type 1 this happened to), if you are taking too much insulin and/or are overexcercising, you can go into that "LOW STATE" for awhile. Just a thought…did you ever get to the doctor and get his opinion on your ability to not take insulin for awhile? Sincerely, ANNE

You MIGHT have what is called L.A.D.A. aka type 1.5 diabetes. There are several people with that on the boards. One in particular is Russell Stamets.

Here is a recent posting from him: http://www.diabeticconnect.com/discussions/12... There are other T 1.5s posting there too. You might want to invite him and the other 1.5s to be friends with you. I am type 2 but find the idea of 1.5 fasinating

This is Anne…yeah, he might have LADA too…that might also explain how he got by without any insulin for awhile…ANNE
