They give junkies free needles trying to cut down on multiple users. they give out free birth control to those who cannot afford it. why should they not supply free diabetic supplies to those who can not afford it

Supplies are so very expensive. People should be able to get them for free. When my husband retires I will have to look for something to cover me . I have been told to contact Health care.gov. The phone # is216-687-6000 in Ohio.

Great Discussion! I get so disgusted when I hear how easily some people can get disability. Alcoholics and drug addicts qualify easier than a diabetic with complications causing them to quit working. I quit my job because I couldn't keep up with it anymore because of the unpredictable B/G's.
I'm fortunate my husbands job provides good insurance.

There should be more help in paying for our supplies. To let a person fend for themself is really unconscionable. Without the help the diabetes is not controlled which leads to complications and larger costs. Why must our health be contigient on greed.

I totally agree!
I really do feel for you as I couldn't imagine having to pay for my medication. I live in England and its all free but I take it your American (as most users are)
I hope you find help!

True about the weather part, but Americans are cool. We don't dislike you, just the same as us really.

My son had the "absent" type of seizures. It started when he was 5, and when he was 12, he had two "normal" EEGs" and has been off medication ever since. I don't know the unemployment requirements in your state, but I would certainly contact someone like Binder and Binder regarding disability. Just a suggestion. Best Wishes and Good Luck!

what excuse did they give you for denying unemployment? It seems that employers will use any excuse to avoid paying unemployment.

Alabama is a right to fire state meaning you can do everything right and if they deide to they can fire you. I worked for a state faciity i had no prayer at getting unemployment

We don't qualify because we don't live the weird lifestyle of hookers and junkies. Sad. Would be nice for low income and those on a fixed income to get some help.

We are a hot commodity just think about it 75% of testing strips have some amount of real gold in it. I know for a fact the CHEK has tones…$1.00 a strip for one use. Thoes who need these supplies should have them at a very nominal cost to help out. i must say my friend you are exactly right on.

Honestly I think it's because stereotype has it that we are all a bunch of fat slobs eating cotton candy all day. I am so tired of being telling me I'm too thin to be diabetic. I'm too thin to play football but not too thin to be a diabetic.

Price. Plus you can get them free from a lot of places like local diabetes charities, the manufacturers and free clinics.

Have you tried your local diabetes charities (even catholic charities), the test strip manufacturer or free clinics? Most can be reached in person, by phone or by email.

Has anyone had a chance to check out with their health dept about that. I was gonna call Fri. and never got the chance. It's a good point and makes alot of sense. Do we have to start a petiiton? I'm not sure how that works, would like to be apart of that if anyone knows. P.S. Red Cross used to help my mom with testing supplies and insulin. Would be worth it to check out if someone needs help. Good luck and God Bless…

I think someone could start by asking the ADA if something like this is in the works, they should be able to point us in the right direction or perhaps the RED Cross Mickey. Of course the starting place is probably DC but isn't it worth it. Everybody and their momma is marching their for something- why not us? Thats my phrase for this project- WHY NOT US, WHY NOT US, WHY NOT US

can I double or triple like this question. I have 9 test strips left. I test 3 times a day. Won't have money until the 23rd. 8 days from now. So I am just gonna test in the am and if I get feeling bad. This sucks.
