Howdy Matthew (sorrry to learn of your friend's passing from this life)

Here is a snippet from a larger article about diabetes in general, from It tells a little of the difference and also why a Dx of preDiabetes may be so confusing

{Quote}What is pre-diabetes?
In pre-diabetes, blood glucose levels are higher than normal but not high enough for a diagnosis of diabetes. However, many people with pre-diabetes develop type 2 diabetes within 10 years. Experts disagree about the specific blood glucose level they should use to diagnose diabetes, and through the years, that number has changed. Individuals with pre-diabetes have an increased risk of heart disease and stroke. With modest weight loss and moderate physical activity, people with pre-diabetes can delay or prevent type 2 diabetes. {end quote}

I myself encourage folks who are Dx'd with preD, to think of themselves as having DM (diabetes mellitus), since they need to start taking care of themselves as though they have DM.

Others may think otherwise and they are perfectly entitled to their opinion.
I just don't want the person Dx'd with preD that it is no big deal. They say that if the progression toward full blown DM T2 is halted soon enough they may not develop it in their lifetime.

I pray this helps you even a little bit, Matthew.

Blessings to you and yours

I've been told that I'm PreD so I take it as I'm already there. I'm trying to watch what I eat and drink. However, I recently had blood tests at the VA and they told my that my Blood Glucose was 92! I'm thrilled, but I'm going to continue to watch my diet. Then I got the bad news, my cholesterol is up, and the Dr. wants me on Zocor. I'm not happy about that, I think that with a little more careful dieting and exercise I can reverse those numbers. Now, I'm left with not much left that I can eat, grass? I have two dogs, the grass in my yard doesn't look too appetizing. lol.
