One of the best ways to deal with stress is to get lost. That is, to get lost inside of something that you enjoy doing.

Doing something you love can be like escaping into another world where the worries and the frustrations, and the disappointments, and all that other stuff that’s bring you down can be pushed aside, at least temporarily, while you lose track of time and space.

So, you might be asking, just how does one get lost? I would answer that question with a question: How do YOU get lost?

Think back to the last time you escaped into that other world. What were you doing? Enjoying a favorite craft, like knitting? Listening to music? Dancing? Reading a book? Playing with children? Doing some house or yardwork? Doing something for someone else, like volunteering at a nursing home?

What’s happening during these moments of escape is that you essentially distract yourself from the pressures of the moment. You give yourself a “time out” and allow your mind and your emotions to rest. Reading can help because it engages your mind and literally carries you into another world for awhile (caution: choose a book that is going to entertain or inspire you). Activities like crafts or housework keep your brain busy through soothing, repetitive movements. Playing with children or volunteering can give you a feeling of connectedness with something outside of yourself.

Any of these activities can give you a temporary refuge and be a way to heal you emotionally while you also reduce stress. And also keep in mind that, even while you are focused in another direction, your mind is working undercover. Have you ever had an inspiration while taking a shower or doing housework? When you distract yourself from your problems, take the pressure off yourself – and take your eye off the ball – you are also giving your brain a chance to work on its own. This can give your brain access to your strengths, and to the possibilities. Who knows, you might return to reality feeling renewed, refreshed, and with a new perspective.

You might be thinking that the obvious solution is TV, but it is not necessarily the best one. TV is pushed at you, no focus on your part is required. What should be helping you to relax by giving you a break from the pressures of life may be stimulating more thinking, more worrying, more frustration. And so much of TV isn’t exactly what I would call feeding your soul. Surfing the Internet also falls into this category.

How are you going to get lost? What takes you out of this world, relaxes you, centers you, gives you a feeling of accomplishment, gives you pleasure? If you aren’t sure, it might be time to do some exploring. Try something you have thought about you haven’t yet taken the step to pursue. Do some experimenting. You will know that you have found it when you look at your watch and say, “wow, I didn’t realize this much time had gone by.”

Need a break from the stress? Get lost!!! Now, how do you get lost?

I get lost in DC and the other connect sites. I can sit dowin in the computer room here in the Apt complex and stay glued to DC for hours on end.

I first started on DC in 2009, when "jem" was alive, and she would complain even then that she felt like an "internet widow" — and I was only on DC for an hour or two at a time.

But now since I only have to worry about me, I am on here for longer periods. I love being involved in the chat here, especially because it is IMO meaningful chat. I like being able to go out to the net and research things and bring back and share relevent information.

I feel like I am doing both me and others a service, and helps keep my spirits up.

Another thing I get lost in is dancing. I go to classes and the 2 hours seem to fly by, and I am wanting more! I am working on improving my stamina so I can dance even longer.

Reading, sewing, quilting, teaching sewing and quilting classes. Right now, I'm reading a Jasper Fforde novel…he makes me laugh out loud! When I'm involved in a sewing or quilting project, I often forget to eat…good dieting strategy!…and I listen to audio books when I'm sewing or driving.

Reading! I love to read, it just takes you away. I also love playing with my nieces and nephews. They are so exubarent(sp?) and fun and innocent. They are truly gifts from God and you feel that when you are with them. There is no way i can think on anything bad or something that is driving my crazy when i'm with them. You don't have time! LOL. P.S. In the pic is my youngest nephew, 2 at his b-day party in April.

I get lost in the Summer photographing bees. During the no Bee time of the year I weave, design and make beaded jewelry, and try to learn a little more Danish. ( Learning Danish is just an excuse to listen to some good Danish Rap, hip hop, and pop music). Blaes verdens beste.

Oh no, they have some of he best ever. Blaes Bukki, Den Gale Paso, Jokeren, Malk De Kojin, Oestcoast Hustlers, M C Einer. Then to stray from Rap they have Balysrtyko, Nephew.Hej Matematik, JaJa Confetti, Anne Trolle, Bykstok Rogsyaytem, Blaese, … I think if you gave it a listen the Danish music would get your feet tapping and you find several tuns that have "a beat you can dance to." ( A line from Malk de Kojin. I am their #1 fan in Colorado.) Checkany of them out on YouTube, your ears might just thank you.
Snezlilla a fantastick album. Flamer og Snake, Taet paa, Centerpubben, Du og Jeg, Igen og Igen, Spaende op til lir, Walkmand (REM tried to sue Hej Matematik over it and lost), Penga inda pa torsdag, Malks 2 Back, Ordenspoliti, Wanna Be Darth Vadar… the list goes on and on. Have to add Arbeydt, Arbeydt!!! Also God Taget.
Check out the Zulu awards, the Danish music awards, on YouTube for a cross section of Danish music..
